Jim Webb – Phoning It In Already

It appears that Sen. Jim “Thinskin” Webb (D-WashPo) has already grown tired of “this Senate-thing” and is just phoning it in and collecting a paycheck. We’ve previously detailed how he was MIA in the Senate for Virginians on their number one priority — transportation. Even before that, Webb already had lower approval ratings from Virginians than George Allen had AFTER Allen lost the election to Webb. (That poll was also taken before Webb started hanging out with his new best friends.) Well, this week marks the first recess for the Senate since it began the 110th Congress and to date, Webb-O has introduced all of 1 bill or amendment. One. Uno. Un. Compare that with fellow Marxist freshman Sen. Bernie Sanders of VT who has already introduced 6 separate bills and amendments.

So, here I give you — straight from the Library of Congress’ own record of legislation introduced in the current Congress — all that Sen. Thinskin has done so far in office:

Item 1 of 1

S.22
Title: A bill to amend title 38, United States Code, to establish a program of educational assistance for members of the Armed Forces who serve in the Armed Forces after September 11, 2001, and for other purposes.
Sponsor: Sen Webb, Jim [VA] (introduced 1/4/2007)      Cosponsors (2)
Latest Major Action: 1/4/2007 Referred to Senate committee. Status: Read twice and referred to the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

COSPONSORS(2), ALPHABETICAL [followed by Cosponsors withdrawn]:     (Sort: by date)

Sen Mikulski, Barbara A. [MD] – 2/16/2007 Sen Sanders, Bernard [VT] – 2/16/2007

Not exactly original now, is it. I seem to recall the government doing something like this before. Oh, I know. It was called the G.I. Bill after World War II.  The taxpayers are really getting their money’s worth with this guy, huh?

  1. There was a time, of course, when conservatives would applaud a federal legislator didn’t introduce a bill, because every time the federal government acts, liberty dies a little bit more. In fact, it may not be a bad idea to elect some folks to Congress purely for the purpose of voting no on just about everything all the other members did introduce.

And, if this bill really does just revive a lapsed GI Bill–well, why the hell shouldn’t the GI Bill be revived if it has lapsed? The original idea here seems to be reviving the program.

  2. Only 1 Bill? Good average to me. I wish they’d all just put in one bill a session.

  3. See, James Atticus Bowden gets it, the first part of my comment, anyway.

  4. Cory, who says what Webb has proposed covers something that already isn’t? Maybe that is why his bill was introduced on 1/4 and still only has two cosponsors including Comrade Sanders.

Also, there are enough bad laws on the books already where legislation is needed to correct it and restore more liberty. Webb’s record to date just shows that he really didn’t have an issue to run on other than the war and now that he is there, he has no clue what to do.

  5. Dear Riley,
Can’t you convince Ollie North to run against John Warner? We need a serious counter balance to Comrade Webb and the rest of the” USEFUL IDIOTS” who currently inhabit the US Senate.

  6. TOTO, you give me more influence than I have. Besides, I think Ollie prefers his FOX News gig. Although, it would be a blast to have to watch Webb squirm every day, knowing his seatmate from VA knocked his block off years ago.
