John Edwards looks to raise “Money for Nothing”

In the “Yeah, buddy, that’s his own hair . . . He got his own jet airplane . . . He’s a millionaire” department, ambulance chasing reject from a John Grisham novel / fluke former U.S. Sen. / perpetual candidate for something John Edwards is looking to raise $100K in “Coulter Cash”.  That’s right, Ann Coulter said something incendiary and the Democrats are just shocked — shocked I tell you — that she would say something controversial.

Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, called on Republican presidential contenders to denounce the “hate-filled” comment.

Edwards’ campaign sent an e-mail to supporters calling the comment a “shameless display of bigotry.”

It asked supporters to help raise $100,000 in “Coulter Cash” so that the former North Carolina senator could show “every would-be Republican mouthpiece that their bigoted attacks will not intimidate” him.

A few observations. First, if Dean and Edwards were really upset about this, they wouldn’t be trying to score political points or raise funds off of this. Second, Ann Coulter makes a living by being controversial. If Democrats truly did not want her to receive the attention that she gets, then they should stop responding to her and giving her the publicity that she is seeking. Third, by responding to Coulter, it puts Dean and Edwards on the same level as a political columnist as opposed to the level of a presidential candidate or party leader. That makes them both look weaker. And finally, if they are so truly outraged about this, where were they 22 years ago when Dire Straits and Sting came out with the number one hit song “Money for Nothing” that repeatedly used the same word they are criticizing Coulter for? (I’ll actually give them points if they are consistent here.)

  1. Glad to see someone else recognizes this. So many of our comrades calling for the head of Ann Coulter, it amazes me that they are not instead (or at least also) hitting the hypocrisy of the left who say nothing when their dogs attack.

If a liberal stood up and said what Coulter had said about a Republican, his supporters would be standing and applauding, and would completely ignore any calls for apologies. She needs to stand her ground and not back down until we start to see Bill Maher, Cindy Sheehan, and many others offer apologies for their incendiary statements.

  2. Ha! You just can’t admit when a Republican does something wrong, can you?

Please, please circle the wagons around Ann Coulter: I think she’s the perfect example of what the Republican Party stands for.

  3. Where exactly did we defend what she said? It was stupid. But so were the Dems responses to it.

  4. [...] Looks like the ambulance chasing reject from a John Grisham novel just keeps getting into this deeper and deeper. His best bet would have been to ignore her and not give her the attention she was seeking with this comment. As I said before: . . .by responding to Coulter, it puts Dean and Edwards on the same level as a political columnist as opp… [...]
