Greg L. at BVBL has up a post about the future (such as it may be) for Sen. John Chi-ching-e$ter. In it, he mentions the possibility of John Van Hoy challenging Chi-ching-e$ter in the GOP primary (if the 28th Dist. GOP Cmte. hasn’t already disassociated itself from Chi-ching-e$ter that is.)
Well, our old friend Shaun Kenney had some nice things to say about Van Hoy a few years back.
Congratulations to Jim Bowden, Dennis Lister, and John Van Hoy for their election to RPV State Central Committee. The three conservatives won by overwhelming margins against Chichester-supported Stafford GOP Chairman Steven Apicella.
In addition, Apicella lost the races for RNC Delegate by wide margins as well to Sherwood Bowditch, John Van Hoy, and Shelia Riley.
. . .
To add to the mix, the committee passed four resolutions against the Chichester tax hikes, in the defense of pro-life values, in defense of traditional marriage, and finally in support of Rep. Jo Ann Davis.
All in all, a very conservative climate at the 1st District. Moderates were crushed by huge margins (for instance, for SCC Apicella scraped together 121 delegate votes, while Bowden won 421 votes out of 465).
A big win for anti-tax, pro-life conservatives today in the 1st District, and a huge loss for anyone who might think that RPV is showing signs of strain. Conservatives are angry and mobilized, and it looks as if the consternation from the Chichester tax hikes will last indefinitely.
I’d say that Shaun called that last part correctly. Nearly 3 years later and it still resonates.
So, Virtucon is stepping up and calling for a “Draft John Van Hoy for State Senate” effort. Greg L. gives us a snippet of Van Hoy’s bio here:
John Van Hoy, of Fredericksburg, is a former chairman of the Stafford Republican Committee, serves as a member of the Republican State Central Committee for the 1st Congressional District, and is a successful businessman who has served as president of Van’s Construction Co. since 1994. Van Hoy is vice president of Rappahannock Geological Products Inc., vice chairman of the Stafford County Utility Commission, and a member of the State Water Commission. He also has held numerous leadership positions in the community, including chairman of Friends of the Rappahannock, of which he has been a member since 1993, and co-founder of the White Oak Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Sounds just like the type of mainstream conservative that can knock off Chi-ching-e$ter once and for all. Come one, come all and hop onboard the Van Hoy Express!!!

This guy sounds like the real deal! I want to give him money if he runs, but it doesn’t sound like he needs it!
John Van Hoy will be a great Viriginia Senator. I look forward to supporting him.
They always need money. Chichester has hundreds of thousands and his RINO buddies will be donating to him by the bucketful.
With less than 100 days left, a decision needed to be made yesterday. If this is going to happen and have a chance, it needs to happen without further delay, debate or discussion. Ironically enough though, although Chichester had over $300K at his last filing, over $127 of that came from special interests in Richmond and ONLY $14K came from his own district according to VPAP.
Sounds like a great guy, but being a pragmatist I wonder if the money is there since this race is approaching 3 months. The money it would take to win and finance this race might be better spend helping our incumbent senators in NOVA and even FitzSimmons who has a legitimate shot as a challenger. I just don’t believe ANY challenger could pony up the cash to run a credible race at this point against Chichester. One would need over 1/2 a million dollars to make a race of it and I am not sure it is worth it at this point.
A better idea would be to attempt an overthrow of leadership next session in the caucus since it is obviously split over transportation and Chichesters greatest ally wil be gone.

Joe Graziano has officially entered the race for the 28th. Van Hoy was Joe’s old campaign manager for a Supervisor’s race four years ago. Graziano is the candidate to watch for.
If we are to retain the 28th we better nominate someone like Jonathan Myers. He is a decorated Marine and seems to have what it takes to win against someone like Pollard in the 28th
