Overlooked in all the hoopla and hub bub of more high profile issues lately is the fact that Gov. Kaine signed H. 2302 sponsored by Del. Mark Cole. This bill amends the Virginia Code as follows:
§ 22.1-176.1. Agreements to provide transportation for nonpublic school pupils.
Local school boards may enter into agreements with nonpublic schools within the school division to provide student transportation to and from such schools under such terms and conditions as the local school boards deem appropriate and responsible. Such terms may include, but are not limited to, arrangements relating to cost-sharing, fees, insurance, and liability.
Effective 7/1/2007
Virtucon encouraged Gov. Kaine to sign this bill. Local school boards will now have the option (but will not be required) to transport private school students to and from school. We applaud that Gov. Kaine saw fit to sign this legislation, providing this option to Virginians that more than half the states already enjoy.
UPDATE: The Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star has finally picked up the story.
