"That some should be rich, shows that others may become rich, and, hence, is just encouragement to industry and enterprise."
-- President Abraham Lincoln - 1864
"The supply-side claim is not a claim. It is empirically true and historically convincing that with lower rates of taxation on labor and capital, the factors of production, you'll get a bigger economy."

In a fight between Jim Webb and Ollie North, who would win? Oh, that's right, we already know the answer to that question.

“What’s his plan, son? A russian sailor doesn’t take a dump without a plan.” I’m imagining neither does a former Senator and watergate attorney.
I must admit to being annoyed at media articles that compare Sen. Thompson to Pres. Reagan as actors.
President Reagan was a career journalist and actor who through his work in the union became politically active and rose to hold our highest office.
Sen. Thompson was a career attorney who was asked to play himself in a movie about Watergate and then explored an acting career. He had serious legal and legislative experience before running for political office.
While his acting has improved his visibility, on the basic merits he was more qualified to seek elective office than Reagan was.
That being said, it is clear that experience is not everything. President Reagan proved to be one of our best leaders. Al Gore had served as Vice President, Senator and Representative while George W Bush had simply served as Governor of Texas. I am glad the latter won.
Perhaps that is why I am most intrigued by the candidacy of Gov. Romney. He has diverse experience in business, running an international organization during the Olympics, and as Governor of a liberal state (much like Reagan had experience governing California).
