A Creature of the Left?

We’re beginning to hear about Cho Seung-Hui’s suicide note

A law enforcement official who read Cho’s note described it Tuesday as a typed, eight-page rant against rich kids and religion.

Gee, who preaches class envy and distrust of religion? I wonder…

So, all you liberal elitists and sanctimonious Europeans so ready to criticize Virginia and the U.S., take a long hard look at the drivel you’re spewing out into these young minds and see what it ultimately results in.

UPDATE:  The Right-Wing Liberal has an excellent post up about the Left in Cho’s home country of South Korea and how it may have helped fuel this deranged individual’s hatred that led to this tragedy.

UPDATE 2:  Also, be sure to read what Black Velvet Bruce Li, Grumpy’s Gripes, and SWAC Girl are saying.

UPDATE 3:  This nutjob went and mailed a “video manifesto” to NBC News in between crime sprees.  Some “highlights” –

“Your Mercedes wasn’t enough, you brats. Your golden necklaces weren’t enough, you snobs. Your trust funds wasn’t enough. Your vodka and cognac wasn’t enough. All your debaucheries weren’t enough. Those weren’t enough to fulfill your hedonistic needs. You had everything.”

. . .

“You have vandalized my heart, raped my soul and torched my conscience. You thought it was one pathetic boy’s life you were extinguishing. Thanks to you, I die like Jesus Christ, to inspire generations of the weak and the defenseless people.”

Sounds like a cross between a Hugo Chavez and a John Edwards “Two Americas” speech.

UPDATE 4: The Ward View weighs in with I think Ben needs a nap.

    “Liberal elitists and sanctimonious Europeans”?

Hmmm, what about the “conservative elitists” who seem to be spewing forth just as much….

  2. Nate de la Piedra

Did you really just try to blame the VT massacre on liberal thought? Are you that fucking stupid as to not only try to score cheap political points off the lives of 32 innocent college students but also to try to say that somehow “the left” is responsible for this?

You really should be ashamed of yourself, there are 32 families that will be missing a loved one every July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, New Year’s Eve, various religious holidays. And you try to make a political point (and an absurd one at that).

    You should be ashamed.

Wow what a douchebag thing to say. So you’re saying that rather than being mad at rich-kids and religion, which some have a legitimate right to be, he was actually brainwashed into being so? that’s some powerful spin you heartless thug.

  4. Riley, Not O'Reilly

Did I say Democrats? No. Most rank and file Democrats are solid, hardworking people who one can disagree with without being disagreeable. There is a distinction between Democrats and the radical Left (at least I hope there still is even though the Nutroots seem to think they have completely coopted that party.)

The Leftist ideology by its very nature promotes class warfare and disregard for organized religion. Look at Jim Webb’s favorite philosopher, Karl Marx, and what did Marx preach? Those very things that this troubled young man ranted about in his suicide note.

Seems this hit a little close to home with the Nutroots given the obscenity laden comments here so far from them.

  5. Anonymous

It may be a good idea to wait until the whole text of the note is published before jumping to the conclusion that Liberalism did this to him, though I will say that had the school *done* something about his brutally insane writings, instead of \”tolerating\” it as a form of \”free\” speech, it\’s entirely possible that they could\’ve intervened before he committed this atrocity.

  6. Dogwood Pundit

Liberals said the exact same thing about conservatives after the Oklahoma City bombings. Saying that Conservatives rantings about the government drove people like McVeigh towards extremism. Now that a conservative makes a similar charge, Lefties are all up in arms about it.

I don’t agree with either argument, but to the Left I say, you can dish it out but you can’t take it. Perhaps payback is just a bitch.

  7. What Next

The killer was mentally ill — this is not about politics. But you’ve really outed yourself as a class act.

And even though this isn’t about politics – our Gov. gave an outstanding and uplifting speech yesterday to those grieving at VA Tech. And a later quote puts him at the top of the real class act list:

“People who want to take this within 24 hours of the event and make it their political hobby horse to ride, I’ve got nothing but loathing for them,” Kaine said at a Tuesday evening news conference.

“To those who want to try to make this into some little crusade, I say: Take that elsewhere. Let this community deal with grieving individuals and be sensitive to those needs.”

  8. Riley, Not O'Reilly

Why Chuck, I believe that Dogwood Pundit answered that very question. Liberals accused everyone from the then-new GOP Congress to Rush Limbaugh as being at fault for OK City and McVeigh.

And What Next, we’re only responding to the debate that has already begun with the insipid attacks on Virginia as somehow being responsible.

Aren’t liberals all supposed to be about root causes and motivation? Yes, this man was mentally ill. I suppose that is also why he fell hook line and sinker for the extreme left’s garbage that fueled his rage and hate.

  9. Riley, Not O'Reilly

    Um, didn’t PJ write above:

“You’re an ass. Consider this a place I will never visit again.”

Just like a lib to break their word. Either that or it all depends on the meaning of the word “never”.

  10. Grumpy

I find it entertaining that someone a part of the “Next Generation Democrats” would use such language. I think I shall post about that. Then we can see what happens. And post an email to Morris Meyer and Janet Oleszek so they can see the caliber of support they have.

    How awe-inspiring.

  11. Sherpa

Um wow–with all the hate in the world, and the hate that caused this horrible tragedy–why are you continuing it? Yeah, just because the kid ranted on religion and the rich–doesn’t mean liberals are to blame. Funny though, you conveniently left out his rant off women.

  12. Anonymous

Figures some of you conservatives would make this a right vs. left thing – how typical….You conservaitves are always so damn angry that everything has to be the liberals fault..

That’s what happens when you heroes are a fat drug addict (Rush Limbaugh) & a filthy monster like Ann Coulter..

Conservatives are full of rage & utter stupidity..

  13. anon

Maybe the thrashing you’re getting from NLS and the attempt to blacklist you has to do with the fact that blognews rated you higher than him the first week.

  14. hirons

Anonymous 22 – I know Can you beleive how conservatives blame liberals for everythng? – especially the way they did over the Murrah Building bombing.

  15. Chuck

Dogwood Pundit didn’t really answer the question but my thought on the matter is that anyone blaming Oklahoma City on conservatives is as wrongheaded as those (like you) who are blaming the VT massacre on liberals now.

  16. Riley, Not O'Reilly

Except, Chuck, in this case there is a note from the lunatic who committed this act where he spouts off leftist ideology as the rationale for why he did this. Would he have found some other motivation for doing what he did? Maybe. But the class warfare and disdain for religion spouted by the hard left fed his hatred that led to this.

  17. Chuck

So you’re saying if I’m an atheist who supports liberal economic policies then that means that I’m, at least in part, responsible for a student I’ve never met who woke up one day and started randomly killing people? Is that not absured on its face?

  18. Riley, Not O'Reilly

No, that is not what I am saying. But if one is promoting class warfare and disdain for organized religion, then that person is looking to foment trouble. There is a big difference between holding the beliefs that you describe and those who seek to instill in people hate and envy against anyone — whether the moster be named McVeigh or Cho.

  19. I.Publius

There is a vast chasm separating a personally held belief, as in atheism or anti-capitalism or left wing kookism, and holding said belief while simulaneously spewing vitriol at anyone who doesn’t share your belief.

The vocal members of the left wing kook fringe — who are far more vocal than their public support might indicate — lash out with hate and disgust toward religion, capitalism and anything remotely associated with tradional America.

It is not hard to imagine this poor little wretch of a creative writing major reading DailyKos all day, feeding off its hate. Did Kos or any other left wing kook pull the trigger? Of course not. But you reap what you sow.

  20. AFF

yeah- all those hippies with their love beads, old volvos and stinky birkenstocks preaching hate is what did this.

    you people are fucking nuts

    bye

  21. JWD

The outrage of the left is so hypocritical–just look at Obama trying to blame Cho’s actions on everything from Imus to outsourcing and the “violence” that results. The fact is that Cho specifically called out “rich kids” and had the typical anti-capitalist, envious view of those on the left such as John Edwards who stoke these passions.

  22. Anonymous

none of us know jack shit about what motivated the shooter so shut the fuck up with your stupid theories (especially the ass-wipe who runs this site).

  23. Riley, Not O'Reilly

Actually, if you pay attention to news accounts and listen to what police investigators have told the media (which was the original basis for this post), a picture IS beginning to emerge as to his motivation. That is the entire reason for this post. That is also why there is a question mark at the end of its title.

Given the number of leftists who have come here so far and shown their inability to debate with anything more than vulgarities, well, they’re just helping prove the case that they could be the source for this person’s hate and rage.

  24. Casey D. Johnson

Hmm. Probably not a wise post.

While things that liberals promote were mentioned in his suicide note, I hardly think that the blame can be placed squarely on their ideals.

We cannot forget that these were the actions of a deranged young man. Anything could have set him off. He just chose to mention women and rich kids.

  25. Chuck

I’m sorry but I think the idea that this disaster was caused by liberals, even in part, is crazy. First, not even in the farthest reaches of the far left do you find anyone who advocates random killing based on some vauge hatred of rich people and religion. Second, even if a deranged mind could somehow conclude that liberal ideas required him to kill people randomly, what evidence do we have that Cho was interested in liberal ideas? So far we have vagues references to religion and rich kids taken out of a rabmling three page note, which we don’t even have the full text of. Was there a volume of Chomsky left by Cho’s bed? A poster of Che on the wall? Anything?

  26. CR UVa

Before replying, sorry Hirons, I misunderstood what you had written earlier, presuming it was literal rather than sarcastic.

  27. John Light

Chuck writes: First, not even in the farthest reaches of the far left do you find anyone who advocates random killing based on some vauge hatred of rich people and religion.

Um, have you ever heard of HITLER, Pol Pot, Stalin????

People are saying that this is one more reason to outlaw guns. Well, at VT it WAS against school policy for ANYONE (except the police) to carry a weapon.

To armchair quarterback here, why didn’t anyone bumrush the maggot at ANY time like the victims on the plane that went down in PA at 9/11??? If just ONE person had thrown a book at him, human defense mechanisms would have kicked in and in his attempt to block the book, he could have been tackled. This is basic self-defense that is taught to women in self-defense courses.

Is what I am saying heartless? Absolutely not – after ANY tragedy, it is common practice to go over events that took place and see what can be done to prevent it from happening again and IF an event was to happen, what can be done to minimize damage to people or property.

  28. Mad Hatter

    Yes.

Please continue to second-guess scared college kids who are mourning the violent deaths of their friends.

Please continue your disgusting attempt to make them feel guiltier – because they already feel guilty that it was not them in front of the bullets.

The rest of us will pray for healing.

  29. Archie

Seems simple enough. If you have the will and the ability to defend yourself, you have a better chance of survival. Both will and ability can be developed.

  30. Far Left Freddy Finkelstein

I’ll take responsibility for the anti-rich thing motivating him if you’ll take responsibility for the anti-woman thing motivating him.

Or maybe he was just a nut, and he had latched onto any convenient rationalization for murder.

or maybe the guy that runs this site is an opportunistic, weasely douchebag who takes great thrill in rubbing his ideological opponents’ noses in the blood of dead hokies.

  32. johnmaxfield

    Cliff said,

    “Completely irresponsible post.”

Like most of your blog postings? Most of the statements and questions you and others on the left have brought up, unduly accusing Riley, are clear when someone else has to decide them….

  33. johnmaxfield

    Anon said,

“or maybe the guy that runs this site is an opportunistic, weasely douchebag who takes great thrill in rubbing his ideological opponents’ noses in the blood of dead hokies.”

Hey…you sound like a friend of ours in SWAC that operates this site…

    http://johnathanmaxfieldsdouchebagblog.blogspot.com/

We go there for a good laugh. If it is you that runs it, please keep up the good work!

In any event, if you disagree with Riley, why don’t try to debate his position with logic and substantiated facts and sources. You flying off on a whim and invoking such horrific examples as “…blood of dead hokies.”, does absolutely nothing to help your case, and makes your stance look all the more stupid and juvenile.

  34. voiceofreason

I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now about how the killer had “Ismael Ax” scribbled on his arm and he sent a package to NBC News with the return address (i.e. his address) bearing the name “A. Ishmail” — Why associate himself (a Korean whose name is Cho Seung-Hui) with Ishmael? Obviously he was cryptically indicating that he is a Muslim terrorist. Obviously “Ismael Ax” is broken foreign mangled English for Axe of Ishmael, and he is claiming to be Ishmael’s Axe or in other words, a Muslim executioner. He also made references to “martyrs” in his notes to NBC. But although NBC released the facts of what was scribbled on his arm and what the return address of his package is, they are too PC to mention what it indicates and what this means–America has been attacked again, by Islam. This is 911 all over again, but this time Bush and the media together will sweep it under the rug and make it all about gun control rather than Islam.

  35. michaelcollinsefn

You’re a cheap shot artist. This is like Gingrich saying the Smith murder in North Carolina (when she sent her children into a lake strapped in her car) was reflective of liberal values. We found out that the perpetrator was sexually abused in the home of a Republican official. That had nothing to do with Republicans and this has nothing to do with liberals. I’m in Virginia and have friends at that Tech. On behalf of all the Virginians that I know let me say that your remarks are disgusting and in the very worst of taste.

  36. johnmaxfield

I have friends at VPI–some of my best friends–some were shot at. On behalf of all the Virginians that I know, let me say that Riley’s remarks are thought provoking and brought up an issue that needs to be addressed. It is about time we do so.

  37. Anonymous

Two people can look at the same tragedy and come up with entirely different conclusions. Reasonable people look at what happened in Blacksburg and say, “Hmm, obviously a deranged soul, why do we let people like this buy such dangerous weapons, how do we let people like this slip through the cracks of our mental health system, etc.” Others, promoting their own narrow ideological agendas, say, “It’s obviously the liberals’ fault.” You can call that “thought provoking” all you want, I call it ignorant drivel.

  38. Dan Kachur

Amusing. The “right” claims the “left” is being disrespectful and vulgar and calling for some kind of lofty debate in the same breath that they highlight the vulgar comments and conveniently ignore the insightful ones.

  39. Riley, Not O'Reilly

Well, Michael Collins, my wife’s cousin is an engineering professor at VT and it was more than a day before we knew he was okay, so you don’t have a monopoly here and you don’t have the right to stifle debate when your side is almost unanimously unwilling to engage in it using reason or logic, instead resulting to name calling.

  40. Banana

I love how Phriendly Jaime says this is a place she’ll never visit again, and then, surprise! She comments again. What a douchebag.

  41. jk

He sent his garbage to NBC because he knows that the putrid television news talking heads agree with his moronic opinion that being rich means you deserve to die. Even though they themselves are rich, they are also good liberal brainwashed nazis and fully believe themselves to deserve death for being white if not rich. He knew they would play his propaganda videos because he was merely mimicking their propaganda. NBC created this monster and they are trying to create another one by playing his propaganda video over and over. All the victims’ families should join together in a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against NBC for wrongful death.

  42. Anonymous

Blaming this evil on the “Left” is as disgusting as the Fred Phelps’ protestors who blame the VICTIMS for not being “good Christians” by persecuting gay people enough.

It’s disgusting. And I urge you to retract this nonsense.
