Ben Tribbett, better known as Not Larry Sabato, has finally gone too far with yet another red herring. After peddling a story to reporters that most were too smart touch, he finally has found an audience with Charlie Jackson from Leesburg Today (while reading the story, try not to get a headache from the poor grammar and sentence construction.)
Ben is getting all self-righteous here:
Major story about to break about RPV’s involvement in the charges against Mark Tate…
I want to say one thing in advance. Under normal circumstances I always protect my sources. However I will not sit by while someone is charged with felonies and not reveal information that is critical to their defense. In this case that outweighs my source and their confidentiality.
Right… This is all about correcting a miscarriage of justice. No, professional poker player Ben Tribbett (yes, that is how he is described in several news accounts) is looking to take down RPV and Shaun Kenney all in an effort to advance an opportunity for Democrats to win a state senate seat. This has nothing to do with Tate whatsoever and everything to do with who will control the state senate.
RPV is not involved “in the charges” against Mark Tate. They didn’t bring the accusation. They didn’t hand down the indictment. At worst, they heard a leak (leaking is illegal, but not hearing it) and were trying to prepare how to deal with it. I fail to see how this information would aid Tate in his defense against charges that he committed perjury and election fraud, let alone be “critical” to his defense. (But hey, what do I know? I’m just an attorney admitted in three jurisdictions and before the U.S. Supreme Court, not a professional poker player.) This is nothing but a red herring being perpetrated by Ben in an attempt to get back at Shaun in advance of an upcoming story where Shaun slams Ben on blogging ethics.
We’ve known this was coming for several days having heard about it from those who spurned the story and knew he would be trying to pull this stunt no later than this coming Monday if he couldn’t get a newspaper reporter to bite. Sources close to Shaun have told us that this is
an outright lie and serves no purpose but to help Ben’s ego and destroy the career of a good man. Why? Because Ben’s been called out numerous times by Shaun in the past. Because Ben wasn’t allowed special access to the 28th District Primary. Because Shaun has been quoted as questioning Ben’s blogging ethics.
But also because Ben has never passed up the opportunity to destroy a Republican. “Felix Macacawitz”, McDonnel’s “Jiffy Law” Degree, . . . and on and on and on. He gets away with it time and time again because there has been no concentrated effort to truly call him out . . .
For his part, Shaun Kenney is quoted in the article as saying
“[We were] hearing it from activists on the ground on both ends,” Kenney said today. “We’d hear it from the campaign staff on both sides. We heard it from unit committee volunteers. We’d hear it from outside the district … and Democrats kind of licking their chops as well.”
There is one way to find out exactly what Shaun wrote to Ben. Release the email, Ben. Let’s see it and judge for ourselves. Even then, whatever Shaun may have known or may have passed along, he was under no legal obligation to maintain secrecy.
Shaun put it best in the article when he said
“There is only so many people that can know about [a pending indictment],” Kenney said. “The direct routes are [Loudoun] Commonwealth’s Attorney, [Jim Plowman], [special prosecutor] Matt Britton and anybody on the grand jury. All three of those parties go to jail if they talk.”
If there was a leak, then that is the real story here, not RPV or Shaun Kenney.

Hey Jim, I understand this is payback from Ben on Shaun for the Harris Miller stuff…
This guy needs to go. Tribbett is a disgrace, and even the Leesburg Today said as such. Heh.
Keep rockin’ em, Kenney!
From everything I have seen, it would appear that NLS is just going down the tubes. Did he hit a bad streak with online poker? Maybe. Or he could have just burned out when it came to blogging. Either way, when he keeps his posts more focused and intellectual, it is still decent. When he stretches his wings, it goes to the absurd.
Jim–
I read this in the article…
“Northern Virginia blogger Ben Tribbett said Kenney, on May 2, floated him information specifying the date the indictments would come down. Kenney denies that. On Wednesday, Kenney denied having any contact with Tribbett, who operates the Web site Not Larry Sabato, concerning the investigation into Tate. But an e-mail, provided by Tribbett, indicates Kenney communicated with that blogger on May 2 concerning Tate.
That e-mail from Kenney to Tribbett, which Kenney acknowledged Thursday, suggests that a “birdie” said state Sen. Ken Cuccinelli (R-37) would confirm for Tribbett that he had called and asked Tate to withdraw from the senate race. Kenney declined to say Thursday who his “birdie” was. Cuccinelli declined to comment. Kenney said ”
Regardless of what exactly is in the e-mail Shaun stated he did not send such a message and when it was produced back trakced his story. So did Kenney lie or is he that forgetful about e-mails he sends out to people he supposedly has this enraging fued with? I find the latter hard to believe.
Kenney has made himself the story here. As you know as a seasoned politico the biggest mistake one can ever make is to make themselves the story versus the real issue. He of course made a half-hearted attempt, and a pathetic one at that, to get the story back on track with this doozie:
“Kenney added that Tate could have leaked the information as well, though Tate has said he had no knowledge of his pending indictment.”
Sad.
So Kenney is bad at his job at a minimum by stumbling around and making himself the story. He could have gone so far as to lie to a member of the press, which would ruin his credibility. He needs to remove himself from this story and pass it off to good ole Charlie to comment and if he lied he needs to resign from his position immediately.
As far as your posting, by attacking Ben personally versus the facts you simply stoop to his level. You’re better than that.
Where does this “professional poker player” find his playing money? Oh, wait, he refunds it to himself after a failed bit for HoD!

I wasn’t going to respond to this- but I have to respond to the last anon comment.
I spent almost nothing when I ran (it was only for a couple weeks that I was a candidate). Everyone who sent me money got their contribution refunded in full- and then I refunded myself what I had loaned the campaign minus every expense.
Thank you for clarifying that for our readers, Ben.
Perhaps he can clarify the following as well:
Is it true that you are a college drop out?
Is it true that you make your living playing poker?
Is it true that you live in your mom’s basement?
If any or all of these things are true, I have no idea why any reputable news organization should be asking this guy for quotes.
I’ll be happy to answer all of those.
1) No I am not a “college drop out”.
2) Yes, the #1 source of my income since 2005 is poker in Atlantic City or Las Vegas.
3) No.
Now if you put your name on it, I will ask you some questions too! Otherwise, I am finished with you.
Riley- No prob.
