The Potomac News has an article this morning on the 3 candidates for sherriff in tomorrow’s GOP primary. In the “which one of these is not like the other” department…
Incumbent Glen Hill:
is optimistic about his chances and already has potential projects in the pipeline if he is re-elected in November.
The projects include Immigration and Customs Enforcement training for jail officers and a program that would put tracking bracelets on people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease so that if they get lost, law enforcement officers can easily find them.
Jim Fotis:
said he would act as an advocate for other local law enforcement agencies in participating in ICE training programs. Among other things, Fotis said he would create a civil preparedness plan that is more accessible to residents in the area.
Mike Messier:
The 49-year-old Haymarket resident, who was chief deputy under former Democratic Sheriff E. Lee Stoffregen III and among those fired when Hill took office, said that his main goals as sheriff would be to reinstate child mentoring and senior citizen programs that he says were disbanded under Hill’s administration and to find ways to cut the budget so that more money could go to police and schools.
Why Messier isn’t running as a Dem, I don’t know (well, other than having an R next to you name in PWC makes it easier to get elected.) Messier’s priorities are clearly out of whack and much more in sync with Dem’s social experimentation. The only question is how badly he’ll get crushed tomorrow by Hill and Fotis.
