DNC Closes Blog Comments After Discovering Members Agree With Thompson

Free speech is NOT alive and well within the Democrat Party.  The DNC had to close the comment section on their blog post regarding Fred Thompson.  In an attempt to bash Thompson, the DNC posted The Fred Thompson “Dummies Guide to Diplomacy”.  Check out some of these excerpts from comments from DNC blog visitors.  Looks like the Reagan Democrats might feel right at home with Thompson –

Dabear64

If this is really the worst that the DNC can come up with then Fred Thompson may be a problem. Tough talk on the Russians and bad mouthing the French is not going to upset the average voter. Bad mouthing Mexican immigration could be down right popular. Unless we can find something a little more current than the S&L fiasco we may have to hope that he stays out of it to protect his kids from the press.

lucmaone

I may not like his position on other matters, but I agree with him that there needs to be a significantly tighter control on the southern border. The mexican workers themselves are not the problem; after all the mayority of them provide useful services. Its the uncontrolled reproduction of their family members that became US citizens and inmediately entitle their mothers to collect social benefits for the child as they see this as a right. They’ve learned very quickly that the social services of this country are fraught with the ineffectiveness of the morons that administer them.

GOEBubba

I dont see your point.
The Mexican upperclass elite do grow richer by riding the backs of the poor. That government does in effect export their own people in order to draw money from US to bolster their economy.

Have the French not jailed people for incorrect speech?

Is Russia not run by ex-KGB? Does not the entire world make jokes about Putin bumping off his enemies?

If you have something rotten to say about Thompson, something of substance and not based on the pure desire to trash a Republican – let’s hear it.

Did he say he hated kittens? That might be something to fuss about.

gvn2flypjfanc3

i agree with everything he said and if it offends these other countries so what! it true! and sometimes the truth hurts. would you rather have another liar for president? i wouldn’t.

Xopher

Hello?
What’s wrong with what Fred Thompson said here?

If you all think Fred Thompson is out of line then the democrats ARE really out of touch and I’m on the wrong Blog!!!

We can’t be contrary just because a Republican said it’s so, or because it may seem indelicate. The American people are sick and tired of indirect, overly calculated answers. On this issue Thompson is speaking the truth and if we are foolish enough to tap dance around Putin’s conduct, we will alienate voters.

Perico

This guys actually pretty smart. Conservative? Yea, but he’s a pretty straight shooter, and them boys in the south love a straight shooter.

Qwkfingers

You said it, Perico. He is a straight shooter and what he said is right. He calls it like he sees it and hey, I agree with him.

Supersexyspacemonkey

Afte 8 years of president Bush, I would not vote for Fred Thompson, or any Republican, to save my life.

However, my political disposition is no excuse to sit by while this article attacks his comments.

I say this as a Democrat, as an opponent of strict immigration policies, and as a Mexican-American dual citizen who lived in Mexico a quarter of his life:

He Is Absolutely Right.

No wonder the Dems felt the need to close comments on that post.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin’s “Hot Air” blog has now picked up this story from Virtucon.  Looks like we’re about to crush our one-day visitor total record here.

UPDATE 2:  The DNC has been forced to respond to Virtucon –

UPDATE: Showing their usual “brilliant” investigative work, the Republicans have us figured out! That’s right, Hotair, there’s a giant conspiracy that involves an automatic spam system that closes comments on all posts after a certain number of days.

Yeah, that’s a plausible explanation…  Let’s see, Virtucon keeps all its posts open for comments indefinitely and utilizes a FREE built-in spam catcher program that has defeated over 18,000 spam attempts in the last 6 months, but the DNC has to close its comments to prevent spam. Well, no one did ever say that they were overly bright.

Okay, for pity’s sake, let’s give the Dims the benefit of the doubt on this.  That still doesn’t account for all the comments made by their own party members coming to Fred’s defense. Let’s see them try to spin their way out of the substance.

UPDATE 3:  Looks like the nutroots are behind the times on this, not realizing that the DNC has caved and reopened their comments.

Hehehe. Thanks for the pick-me-up post of the day

  2. YES! You have made my day so much better with this post.

  3. It is not a concidence that the comments are “closed down” on EVERY post automatically once the post is a certain number of days old. They do this to prevent spam (i.e. if they don’t do it, the comments will fill up with ads promising to enlarge or shrink various parts of the anatomy). You should be able to track this yourself (and see that this is something they do consistently), unless you are just more interested in whipping up a fervor about some kind of crazy plot to squelch free speech about Fred Thompson. P.S. It’s “Democratic” party, not “Democrat” party.

  4. Blah, blah, blah. There are much easier ways to prevent spam. Heck, we’ve blocked over 18,000 spam posts since Nov. here. Don’t tell me the DNC isn’t capable of doing that.

So, are DNC members Democratics or Democrats?

  5. Duly noted. However, whether there are easier methods of preventing spam is totally irrelevant to whether or not they turned off the comments because that is how they prevent spam. If you say it’s some kind of attempt to stop people from agreeing with Fred Thompson, and I explain to you the real reason, “Well, their procedure is stupid” is not a meaningful response. I think really the only meaningful response would be to demonstrate that I am wrong about the fact that they turn off comments on all articles.

DNC members are Democrats. There is no reasonable dispute as to the name of the party.

  6. Sarah:

Be thankful Riley, Not O’Reilly does not call them the Defeatocrat Party.

  7. No Sarah, it is the Party of Dems or Democrat Party or my new fave the Party of William Jefferson and his $90,000 in frozen billz. Jim, posted your article at Virginians for Fred Thompson blog…Thanks!

  8. Hilarious!!!

  9. Just as the Democrats were honest in response to the attacks on Fred’s statement, I don’t think it would hurt for us to be honest back. If you can’t do that Virginian for FDT, it shows a lack of character on your behalf. Just admit Sarah is right and move on, instead of making irrelevant accusations.

  10. Michael, Sarah has proved nothing. She just came up with an alternative reason. It’s up to her to PROVE it. Do you agree with every statement made by some far left wing fanatical kook?

  11. Hot Air reader here. Awesome find!

  12. Ditto Brian

  13. Is the DNC worried about Fred?

Could Fred Thompson garner the Reagan Democrats for 2008? Looks like the DNC thinks so.

  14. Brilliant stuff.

I was a lifelong Republican, up till about 2002 or so … Fred is giving me some hope for my party again, and this just re-enforces why I don’t want a Democrat in the White House.

Of course, I’d still vote for Zombie Reagan ahead of Thompson, though …

    Ration Reality

  15. I don’t personally agree with the man’s views, but at least he tells voters straight what he believes in, instead of trying to weasel out of believing in anything like most politicians.

  16. [...] National Cmte. blog.  They have now reopened their comments on the Fred Thompson post that we criticized them for closing yesterday.  Guess that “Oh, we closed it automatically so we wouldn’t get spam,” [...]

  17. Fred is truly a plain spoken man. His critics (some liberals), would have you believe that plain english and honest answers lack credibility or substance.Unfortunately, it has gotten to be the status quo among politicians on both sides of the big fence, to weasel out of answering valid questions , by spinning. The American people, know BS when they see it, and it is an insult to the Americam people, to have these candidates blow smoke up our rear ends al the time. I want to hear honest, no bull answers to questions, and common sense ideas applied to these problems which have became so overly complex due to our Politicians special interest. Fred Thompson, is my man. I cannot imagine, any American that is honest with themselves, and that has common sense, would not want to be dealt with honestly. Its not all about individual Americans. It also includes our Country, and how we are going to be ultimately successful on the domestic and world stage!

  18. I was pleased to see that a number of Democrats were willing to interpret FT’s comments for themselves and to offer their opinion, both favorable and otherwise.

My opinion is that most Democrats are true patriots as are most Republicans, but that on some matters, we disagree. In the end, moreso than any other country in history, we have found a collective voice and have made the right decision to continue the forward momentum of our Democracy (God has blessed America with the right leadership for the time for over 200 years.)

I have no doubt that this will happen again in 2008, and to know that Democrats are keeping their minds open challenges me as a Republican to do the same.

Let’s be nicer to each other and more willing to listen, and less willing to silance each others opinions.

  23. Any GOP candidate other than Fred T will lose the race. And you can thank that back stabber El Senior Jorge Booosh (George Bush) for that.
But that is Okay because I am 100% Frederalist.
I bought my whole famly Fred Tshirtpoll. *com

    Fred head forever!

  24. I have found many blogs that are hostile to anti party platform statements. The Democratic Underground Forum is the worst offender. They even turn on their own and eat them alive within the forum for not preaching party line. But I suppose it could be worse. We could all be out in streets like they are in Palestine to settle our differences instead of calling each other names on the Internet.

  28. Yes, PLEASE start putting up lunatics like Clooney, Affleck, et. al as your standard bearers. If you knew ANYTHING about Fred Thompson, you’d know that his career as an actor came after successful stints as a U.S. Attorney, Minority Counsel on the Watergate Cmte. (Fred was the one who asked the questions that led to the discovery of Nixon’s recording system in the Oval Office — Hillary! didn’t do that in her mirror role across the aisle from Fred on the cmte.), and private law practice (where he took on a case that landed the TN Gov. in jail — that case turned into a book and then a movie and no one could play him except him in the film.) So yes, I’ll stack those qualifications up against George “The Barber Cuts My Hair with a Bowl on My Head” Clooney any day.

  29. {“The Barber Cuts My Hair with a Bowl on My Head”}

Now that is a funny visualization. LMAO!

  30. Fredhead all the way for me as well.

I’m an independant with conservative/republican leanings, and with my hand on my bible I can say this is about the only man I can vote for with a clean conscience. (as of now)

The ‘free speech’ that is supposed to be a pillar of the Democrat party only lasts as long as you are free speaking the party line.

To the people running the DNC – be afraid, be very afraid if comments like these start showing up on a regular basis.

  33. This is the usual right wing bullshit. The blog was not closed down because some bloggers agree with Fred. Can’t you guys stick to substantive issues instead of dealing in B.S.? Of course this lie made it to Rush’s show, he traffics in lies and bullshit. There’s an automatic system that shuts down any and all comments after a certain period of time on their site. However, this latest bit of right wing nonsense and misinformation had them putting it all back up there even though other outdated threads have been removed (the Thompson one is from early May) not by CONSPIRACY but by a timed computer program. When I was in high school we were taught conservatism was a mental illness brought about by paranoia…this episode lends credence to that….

  34. Michael, you are as profane as you are lacking in reading comprehension skills. Didn’t you read our various updates at the bottom of the post?

If the DNC is incapable of blocking spam without closing off comments, then they have some serious problems since we’re able to fend off spam using free, built-in software.

You’d like to shift the argument from the fact that most of the original commentators on the DNC blog were either agreeing with Fred or at least defending him. And no, those weren’t trolls, either.

  35. “Free Speech should always be fought for.”

  36. Hilarious. I espcially like the way the lefties lash out with foam on their mouths, claiming some auto shutdown b.s., and finding it necessary to insult the blogs generally. They never have been very good at handling dissent. The only way liberals can deal with it is to silence it by whatever means they can.

Great catch, and I’m sure we’ll see many more instances like this over the next year. You can actually smell the fear whenever Fred is mentioned.

  37. Actually from what I have been reading lately I would love Thompson as a candidate since he has such an interesting past. Can you say supported Aristide in Haiti when he was necklacing people. How about being called the laziest Senator. It should be interesting.

I see you have given nicknames to dems in your list of candidates does it make you feel smart and important to use ad hominims.

  38. Lefties, Righties, what is it with you people? We’re Americans FIRST and LAST.

  39. I don’t think anyone’s arguing that the commentors were siding against Democrat.org in the article attacking Fred Thompson, but they actually do shut down the comments (my blog does it, too) after a few days. I do it because I hate to have to go back and read 90+ comments to pick maybe one or two that I like and delete the 40+ that use the word “Penis” or “F**kface” in my queue when I have at least another 90+ responding to the newest posts I’ve made.

I mean, it’s a political website where the coding and blogging is done by the lowest bidder. The RNC website has been hacked like a dozen times or more because they don’t exactly hire the best people to do their websites. So the DNC using a timed blog doesn’t exactly surprise me.

  40. I think Fred Thompson has a good chance of winning the GOP nomination if Rudy somehow gets tripped up in some kind of scandal. The major news media is already attacking Fred Thompson for having a young and beautiful wife which makes me sick. However, rather than hurting Thompson, the fact that a young and beautiful woman enjoys spending time with him might just be a good sign that the country might enjoy spending time with him for the next four years as well!
