Webb Immigration Amendment Goes Down in Flames

Wow. 

Senators also voted 79-18 to kill a proposal by Democratic Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., that would have allowed only those who had been in the country for at least four years to gain lawful status. The bill would make anyone here by Jan. 1, 2007 eligible for legalization.

Will Webb now vote against cloture on the bill tomorrow, helping to effectively kill it, or will he prove himself to be a tool of Bush and Harry Reid?  We’ll find out soon enough!

    Webb does play well with others who won’t do what he wants. He tends to get very angry. Harry Reid got Webb’s vote for cloture yesterday with the promise that his amendment would get a vote. Expect an angry Webb to vote FOR cloture tomorrow.

    The next question is, will Warner continue to ignore the wishes the voters of Virginia and vote against cloture? My guess, yes. He seems to have completely forgotten that he was elected to represent the voters and not to play the role of elder statesman while ignoring those who elected him.
