    -- President Abraham Lincoln - 1864

"The supply-side claim is not a claim. It is empirically true and historically convincing that with lower rates of taxation on labor and capital, the factors of production, you'll get a bigger economy."

Fairfax Traffic Nightmares

A new website has gone up, FairfaxTrafficNightmares.com.

Looks like Gerry Connolly is going to get hit where it hurts.

  1. Republicans time has passed. Webb is a good start but lets keep getting smarter Virginia and keep voting DEMOCRAT!

  2. Gerry Connolly for Fairfax county. Anybody else would be a bloody shame.

  3. Ronald Reagan is burning for his sins.

  4. I love it when liberals come here and show their softer side. The nuttier they are, the better.

  5. We should all do our part in contributing to solutions to the transportation, energy, health care, and environmental challenges that are facing us. In that regard, I have bicycled over 250,000 miles, always accommodating to motor vehicle traffic. Such action, along with voluntary safety measures undertaken to minimize injury, have resulted in only one collision.

While legally cycling along the right lane of a highly visible section of Gallows Road, I was struck from behind by a passing SUV that fled the scene on impact. The motorist was persuaded to return 20 minutes later by Good Samaritans. At that time, he did not appear to be alert, allowing for reasonable suspicion of driving under the influence. Due to their close proximity, Rescue Squad #13 responded rapidly and strapped my head to a stretcher before the county police arrived. I was physically unable to speak and was transported to Fairfax Hospital Emergency, leaving the motorist and officer alone at the scene.

In addition to not conducting a scientific field sobriety test, numerous errors were contained in the report that was officially generated. No charges were filed nor fines levied against the motorist, despite apparent right-of-way and hit-and-run violations. Additionally, it listed the driver as travelling 15mph (less than half the posted speed limit), patently false since I was cycling at 20mph on impact.

The officer accepted the motorist’s statement at face value but would not accept a contradictory statement and evidence supporting my claim, in violation of the 14th Amendment. The only communication received by them was a phone call to my residence at 6:30AM four days later identifying the motorist, but continued to evade accepting my statement and evidence.

Given the number of errors, there is reason to suspect a little more than casual misjudgement on the part of the officer. Appeals were made to Commander McGowan of the Mclean District Station, Chief Rohrer, the Bureau of Internal Affairs, the Office of the County Attorney, and Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Gerry Connolly, all of which have oversight jurisdiction to conduct an investigation and correct the official record. To this day, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE!!!

Given this total lack of response, it is obvious to anyone that a concerted effort was made by the upper levels of our elected county government to sweep this matter under the rug. There must be a reason- the motorist is the offspring of a 12-term US Congressman representing West Virginia that is a ranking member on a committee that allocates funding to the county for major transportation projects. He also has a direct association with a ranking member on the US Senate Appropriations Committee. The possibility of political patronage exists, exchanging federal funding for the motorist’s leniency. SUCH A PROPOSTION WAS PRESENTED TO CHAIRMAN CONNOLLY, WHO TO THIS DAY WILL NOT ISSUE A DENIAL!!!

The motorist engaged in subsequent criminal activity including multiple DUI convictions, robbery, burglary, and fugitive charges. Additionally, he was sentanced to federal imprisonment on a cocaine distribution conviction. Many of these crimes were indeed committed in Fairfax County and perhaps they could have been prevented had such leniency not been granted. The people are not being well served by such a callous disregard for public safety.

Many on the Fairfax County police force put their lives on the line every day to protect our freedom. Let us work together to persuade our elected officials to investigate this matter. There is no doubt in my mind that this will happen again if they remain unaccountable. If they continue to fail to act, this should be made an issue for the voters in time for the upcoming election. Cordially,

    Daniel K. Scutti
