Of course, when Pete Wilson (who is now assuming prophet status in many circles) made his moves, illegal immigration had not reached a crisis point. The only people who had any passion for the issue at the time were the feckless cowards and underminers who supported unrestricted illegal immigration for the purpose of building a future Democrat Party base.
The worm has turned on that debate and even sensible Democrats realize that in their quest for to rebuild the sizeable majority they once enjoyed and squandered as a result of their weakness and intellectual dishonesty they have almost succeeded in giving away the country. Passion on issue now flows decidely against the Illegal Alien Lobby and its patrons in the Democrat Party. But by all means, tie yourself to that millstone.
