The WashTimes brings us news this morning that Culpeper, James City and Page counties will soon join PWC and Loudoun in putting forth resolutions cracking down on illegal aliens. This is done in the shadow of a federal judge’s decision invalidating the Hazelton, Pa. ordinance that punished landlords who rented to illegal aliens and employers who hired them.
“Hazleton does not affect us at all,” said Corey A. Stewart, chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. “Our proposal is full speed ahead.”
Corey is right on a number of counts here. First, the federal district judge’s ruling only impacts one part of Pennsylvania, not even the entire state. Even then, this ruling by a Clinton-appointed judge is likely to be overturned on appeal. Second, the Hazelton ordinance had a different focus and target.
Loudoun Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio, who introduced the resolution, said Hazleton’s ordinance and the resolutions passed in Loudoun and Prince William counties are completely different.
“Hazleton was punitive,” said Mr. Delgaudio, Sterling Republican. “We’re not punitive. We’re just not going to give you stuff that you want.”
To the illegal alien apologists, I have but this to say. Stop whining and help them get legal if you want them to stay. That has been the consistent message coming out of PWC since Day One on this — get legal or leave. We should and do welcome everyone who comes to America legally and strives to become an unhyphenated American. Unfortunately, that is not acceptible to some groups out there stirring up the foment among illegal aliens here in Virginia as the leaders of such groups rely upon this discord for their power base.
