While it may not be the ultimate plan to fix all of Virginia’s transporation problems, it is a good start. Richard Stuart has issued his transportation plan and it isn’t a simple fluff piece. He lists some realistic solutions that would go a long way to easing traffic on I-95, in Stafford County and throughout the entire 28th District.
- “We Need to End the Political Bickering and Focus on Transportation Solutions” -
STAFFORD – Calling for commonsense transportation solutions, former Westmoreland County Commonwealth’s Attorney and Virginia Senate 28th District Republican candidate Richard Stuart today announced his transportation plan. A land use attorney, Stuart’s plan focuses on increasing VRE capacity, increasing commuter lot capacity, extending HOV lanes, encourage town village planning and better planned roads.
“I understand the frustration of families stuck in traffic that is taking away from quality time at home,” said Stuart. “We need to end the political bickering and focus on transportation solutions to reduce gridlock and get people and commerce moving again. That’s why I am proposing a plan to start relieving traffic congestion and manage growth.”
Richard Stuart’s Commonsense Traffic Solutions
Increase VRE Capacity: Virginia’s Railway Express already has surpassed the level of ridership it was originally built to handle. Richard Stuart will work with both the state and federal governments to invest in VRE expansion to provide more seats for riders and get cars off our roads.
Increase Commuter Lot Capacity: To encourage more carpooling and riding rail, we have to offer more parking spots at commuter lots. Richard Stuart supports expanding commuter lots and parking structures and making those spaces available at no cost to the commuter.
Extend HOV Lanes: Stafford County is among our nation’s fastest growing counties. To move rush-hour traffic through the I-95 corridor better, Richard Stuart supports extending HOV lanes and High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes from Prince William to Fredericksburg.
Encourage Town Village Planning: Building homes, stores and even offices near each other allows people to drive just a few blocks to the store or work instead of having to travel for many miles. Stuart supports these concepts in order to relieve congestion, stop sprawl, get cars off our major routes and make planning new mass transit projects easier.
Better Planned Roads: Without the ability to easily access main roads, commuters waste time and clog our local roads. Richard Stuart supports better planning to make sure that new developments have roads with easy access to our main thoroughfares, and making developers pay their fair share.
We hear Al “Trashman” Pollard will be issuing his fluff piece on transportation later this week. Can’t wait to see what far corner of Virginia he travels to, to announce his plan to fix transportation for chicken farmers.
