June 10, 1999 – Upon deciding to run for the U.S. Senate from New York, Hillary Clinton claims to be a lifelong New York Yankees fan.
Oct. 26, 2000 – Yankees win the World Series.
Nov. 7, 2000 – The people of New York elect Hillary Clinton to the U.S. Senate.
2001 – Yankees lose the World Series in 7 games to the Arizona Diamondbacks (Co-MVP Curt Schilling.)
2002 – Yankees lose the American League Division Series to the Anaheim Angels.
2003 – Yankees lose the World Series in 6 games to the Florida Marlins (MVP Josh Beckett.)
2004 - Yankees lose the American League Championship Series to the Boston Red Sox after jumping out to a 3-0 lead in games. This is considered the biggest choke in sports history.
2005 – Yankees lose the American League Division Series to the Anaheim Angels.
2006 – Yankees lose the American League Division Series to the Detroit Tigers.
Nov. 7, 2006 – The people of New York re-elect Hillary Clinton to the U.S. Senate.
2007 – For the first time since 1998, the Yankees do not win the American League East Division. The Yankees proceed to lose the American League Division Series to the Cleveland Indians.
Do you see a pattern emerging here? I like to refer to this as “The Curse of Clinton.” Hillary claims to be a lifelong Yankees fan, the people of New York buy her lies and ever since they elected her the Yankees have been denied. In fact, after they re-elected Hillary, the Yankees didn’t even win the AL East for the first time in nearly a decade. Just think how poorly the Yankees will do after the people of New York vote for Hillary for President next year.
All I can say is that as a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan (with the ability to prove it), I’m enjoying the show.

Outstanding
Thanks for the beautiful history. Don’t forget this weekend’s plague of bugs! The Yankees are over. Go Sox 2.0!!!
[...] If Virginia Virtucon is right, the Bronx Bombers’ problems can all be tied to one particular woman. [...]
I love the Red Sox and despise the Yankees, but Hillary’s love of the MFY is not something that just came up when she ran for the Senate:
“The White House Pitches In; At Picnic for Ken Burns’s ‘Baseball,’ Hopes Are High for Extra Innings”
Donnie Radcliffe
September 12, 1994
The Washington Post
Mrs. Clinton, who as a kid was a “big-time” fan of the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees and “understudied” Ernie Banks and Mickey Mantle, smiled. Another favorite was Satchel Paige and his advice on how to stay healthy. I always loved ‘Don’t look back, someone might be gaining on you,’” she said.
The curse has not only affected the Yankees, but every one of New York’s teams in the 4 major pro sports. None have won their championship, starting with the highly favored NY Giants losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the 2000 SuperBowl. Year after year New York fans have suffered because of Hillary’s curse.
How do you lift the curse? Vote for her for president?
Shard, voting for her for president will only ensure an even lengthier curse with worse results (note the decline following her reelection.)
The curse will only be lifted after New York dumps her.
Riley,
If she’s elected President, the logical conclusion is that the curse will affect all of America’s sports teams and that nobody will win the World Series, Super Bowl, NBA Championship or BCS Championship until after she leaves office.
That would be true if she proclaimed to be a fan of all those teams. However, it is her disingenuous faux fandom of the Yankees that has imposed the curse.
don’t vote for hilary she will kill our chances of wining any games. save new york sports and vote for barack obama
support our team
dear leslie carbone the sox suck so bad just stop hating on the yankees
Nice try, but no deal. It is the Don Mattingly Curse. The Yankees have never won a championship with Mattingly in the dugout. Don’t blame Clinton. You may as well blame 9/11, or Dubyah. They haven’t won since he was electerd, either. GO BOSOX
Steve, Steve, Steve. There is no direct relation between the Yankees and those other individuals or events (with the exception of DM.) Here we have a solid cause and effect. Hillary proclaims her faux fandom in order to get votes. People swallow it hook, line and sinker. Now they’re paying for it.
Oh please, George Steinbrenner is a good, America-loving Republican and the Yankees’ most visible fan is Rudy Giuliani. In contrast, the excrable Boston Red Sox are owned by radical leftwing swine, John Henry and run by John Kerry-loving fanboy Theo Epstein. And the most visible Sox fan is uber leftist no talen Ben Affleck.
Smart and decent Republicans root for the Yankees. Red Sox Nation is generally comprised of MoveOners and Kos Kids. The only curse the Yankees are suffering from is the curse of the 90 year old pitching staff. With Ian Kennedy, Joba Chamberlain and Phillip Hughes anchoring the rotation next year, that curse will soon be coming to an end.
Go Indians!
Though I am not a yankees fan, I felt disgraced when I heard Hillary was acting like a New Yorker to win the sentate race. You cannot just throw on a Yankees ball cap and say I’m a fan.
I’ve been a long time Mets fan and I have a feeling that when the Yankees go into a slump and the Mets become a dominate NY team, then Hillary will become a Mets fan, kiss Willie Randolph’s ass and will curse the team.
If you start rooting for a time, take it easy at first and after a couple of years you should brand yourself a fan.
One other thing, I am a republican and I noticed that alot of “uber” liberals who jumped on the “hate George Bush band wagon” are mostly Red Sox Fans. I don’t have a anwser for that.
The Mets will win the pennent in 2008, or will the curse on NY sports will get to them first.
I didn’t see any Yankees out campaigning for W. in 2004.
I did see Curt Schilling on the stump in NH and OH with Bush, though. The morning after they won the World Series, Schilling was on Good Morning America and ended the interview by telling viewers to vote on Election Day and vote for Bush.
Curt Schilling for President!
John Kerry is a faux fan. Remember “Manny Ortiz”? Remember that he said he’d rather be elected president than have the Sox win the World Series in ‘04?
And for the record, Stephen King is the most visible Sox fan (he was even seen on TV during Game 2 last Friday night.)
I hate Hillary, and yes, I will run to unseat her in any future Senate re-election race. Oh yeah, by the way, we’ll be back…count on it!
Wow. A-Rod vs. Hillary. Very interesting.
“I didn’t see any Yankees out campaigning for W. in 2004.”
Thats true. I had not seen Yankee players campaign or support any politician (and correct me if i am wrong).
Athletes should not become like celebrities. They never interfere the game with politics. Unlike celebrities who market their Hollywood esc products (movies, shows, etc) for political gain.
I wonder what would have happened if Curt Schilling had taken the field after the victory and told the Red Sox nation to vote for Bush?
Millions of them would have at that point in time.
