Realizing that it’s a tragedy that we lost her in the party and in the Congress, and putting the emotional reaction side aside for a moment- who can we get to replace her?
She has such big shoes to fill and we need someone with really good credentials to fend off the Democratic opportunists that will seek this seat!!
Most of our best and brightest are seeking their respective offices and it would be hypocritical of them to ask people to vote for me on November 6th to be your supervisor/senator/delegate/sheriff, and then 30-60 days later say “I’m going to go for a higher seat, I really don’t want this job now”.
If they lost that seat, they would be available, but it begs the question that if they couldn’t get elected Nov 6th for a local level seat then how could they get elected in other areas where no one knows their name?
So we need someone who is known throughout the 1st District and has a solid record, and is available now and/or in 30-60 days without a conflict of interest…. any ideas/names to throw out there so we can begin drafting them??
While some other blogs have been engaging in speculation on this, we have refrained out of respect for Congresswoman Davis to the point where we have not even linked to any media stories that have engaged in the guessing game (with the exception of the Washington Post story that ran on Sunday and that was for the sole reason that we were condemning the article.)
There will be plenty of time for politics and I suspect that may come as soon as this evening on a variety of fronts.
Understandable to a point . However, Congressmwoman Davis wasn’t one to sit on the sidelines. Out of respect for her we should be looking for the best candidate to fill this important seat rather than giving the dems more time to plot to try to take it.
Riley, I respectfully disagree with you that we should be waiting to open a discussion about replacing one of our strongest allies in Congress.
I respected Jo Ann as much as anyone in the GOP across the Commonwealth, but just a little more– because she always gave just a little more than she had to.
She was a fighter to the very end of her life and will be remembered as a loyal patriot supporter of the armed forces and great Republican ally as her two best political assets (among many).
Having said that, she was also a no-BS woman whom I admired her spirit and dedication.
It is my opinion that she would want us to always remember why we are in this arena and to not lose sight of the objective at hand or waste time coming up with solutions. A moratorium on us selecting a qualified candiate is ill advised.
Kaine asked for it to stall and give him time to think since he’s not too bright. If we sit on our hands too long, there won’t be time to get behind someone and the Dems will have their tri-fecta field day! First Kaine, then Webb, now we have a Warner seat and Davis seat to fill…. so we sure can’t afford to wait much longer.
I’m not for waiting any longer. I was merely pointing out earlier why we had not engaged in any discussion or speculation prior to the funeral services. Now it is time for the battle to be joined…
Excellent! Let’s draft someone then! ….but who???
Who “isn’t” running for a Nov 6 seat already or currently in office serving a committment? I guess someone could always quit, but what would that say to their constituents? Plus wouldn’t that leave just another seat to fill there too?
