Cuccinelli Declares Victory
Centreville, VA – State Senator Ken Cuccinelli (R-37) declared victory in his campaign for re-election at 1:00 am on Wednesday, November 7th.
With all precincts reporting and absentee ballots counted, voters had returned Cuccinelli to office by 94 votes.
Cuccinelli’s victory came in the face of losses by Republican colleagues across the Commonwealth. The Western Fairfax Senator considers his success vindication of his issues oriented, conservative campaign. In a statement to supporters, Cuccinelli commented: “It is possible for conservative candidates running on conservatives principles to win in Fairfax County! We know how to do it – apply conservative ideas to common problems like taxes, transportation and education, and work your tail off getting your message out!”
At a Victory Party attended by over 200 supporters, Cuccinelli thanked the volunteers and other team members who, he said, had “donated themselves” to the advancement of common principles.
As of 4:00 am, Cuccinelli had not heard from his opponent, Fairfax School Board member Janet Oleszek. Cuccinelli is preparing for a recount request by Ms. Oleszek, challenging these results.
