Getting Back to ‘08…

We’ve taken a bit of a breather from 2008 presidential politics these past several weeks on account of the ‘07 Virginia elections and then the 1st Dist. GOP convo held on Saturday.  While we’ll be putting heavy emphasis on the special election being held on Dec. 11 to help our nominee, Del. Rob Wittman, win the seat, we can start to turn our attention back to the ‘08 race now.

Virtucon contributors are split among three camps — Giuliani, Thompson and Paul.  To paraphrase the opening voice over of “Law & Order,” this is Thompson’s story…

Two big items of note for Team Thompson –

First, the National Right to Life Committee will be endorsing Fred Thompson on Tue., Nov. 13.  The NRLC is the largest and most mainstream pro-life organization around, so this carries a lot of weight.

Second, fiscal conservatives should be very happy with Fred today as well.  He has rolled out his Social Security reform proposal and actually brushed aside a reporter who wanted to ask a question about Giuliani’s police chief, Bernie Kerik, being indicted instead of about substantive policy.

This is one of the biggest reasons why I support Thompson — he is a class act who is actually interested in discussing substantive solutions to the big issues facing us, not reacting to the media’s infatuation with the horse race.

  1. Actually, I would put myself in a fourth camp–call it the “I don’t want Romney because he can’t win, I’m feeling let down by Fred, I’m not 100% sold on Rudy, I wish I could forgive McCain for his previous transgressions because I love him on the War on Terror issue, Huckabee makes me physically ill and Ron Paul is a stark, raving, America-hating moonbat who I wouldn’t support if you held a gun to my head”camp.
