Wittman For Congress GOTV

The Wittman For Congress campaign is putting on a show of how to run a great campaign.  The GOTV effort was kicked off today with rallies in both the north and southern areas of the district.  First it was House of Representatives G.O.P. Leader John Boehner kicking things off in Stafford County.  After the rousing speech by Leader Boehner it was off to the doors for the many volunteers who braved the early morning cool and wet weather for Rob Wittman.

Rob Wittman headed down to Williamsburg for the second rally of the day.  The Williamsburg rally was headlined by Rep. Eric Cantor.  Volunteers in the south also hit the doors at the conclusion of the rally there.

With hundreds of volunteers knocking doors across the district Rob Wittman certainly improved up on his overwhelming name recognition throughout the 1st CD today.  He’s well on his way to becoming Congressman Wittman!

Heck, Virginia Virtucon and the Democrats have already called the race for Wittman, now the AP is ready to join the choir!

  1. College Republicans helped Wittman’s GOTV efforts this weekend. Check out a post about it on the VA CR blog:

  2. College Republicans from around Virginia volunteered for the Wittman campaign this weekend. Check out a post about their GOTV efforts on the VA CR Blog:

  3. Anybody see Wittman on Joel Rubin this morning?????

  4. Over the last two days I received a couple of somewhat troubling emails from an anonymous hack trying to undercut Wittman’s efforts. The text of both emails is the same (pasted below) with the first one coming from truthinfirstdistrict@gmail.com and the second one coming from moretruthinfirstdistrict@gmail.com.

I’d love for Virtucon to look into this to see if anyone has an idea of who this person is, and why they are suggesting Wittman won the nomination through some sort of impropriety at the convention. For the record, I was a supporter of Paul Jost at the convention, and have now contributed money and time to the Wittman campaign. I saw no “shenanigans” of the type suggest by this email.

Here’s the text (by the way, the link in the email doesn’t work):

From: “Truth in the First District.org”

To: All conservative Republicans in the First District

Candidate Rob Wittman has been making quite the case that he is a champion of the working taxpayer. Oh, but if only that were true. He insists that only he among the three candidates will keep taxes low, government small, and provide the integrity of leadership we need to “MAKE A CHANGE IN WASHINGTON.”

For all you hard core Republicans out there, it is understood that you took a so-called “pledge” to support your nominee. For now, we won’t discuss the unfortunate shinanigans which took place at the convention to undermine the apparent nomination of candidate of Paul Jost, thereby giving Wittman the nod. We understand that it can be difficult to hear facts that contradict what you’ve been led to believe. Facts can be painful, especially when they are documented and undeniable.

Fact #1: Rob Wittman did not just simply vote for the Comprehensive Transportation Funding and Reform Bill (H.B. 3202) which created those two outrageous monstrosities known as the Hampton Roads Transportation Authority (HRTA) and the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NORVATA). He served on the House Transportation Committee which helped construct it. The sole function of these two appointed (not elected), new and unaccountable bureaucracies, to put it simply, is to raise taxes. Lots of them. For those of you who believe that the bill was to promote highway safety as has been promoted by Mr. Wittman, that has already been proven false as is currently being reported in major newspapers (Daily Press, Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007).

Many of you are not affected by this, but most of the rest of us are. These authorities are already in the process of trying to implement tolls on bridges and highways, increasing the tax on gasoline (as if it isn’t high enough), establish an additional tax (up to 40 cents per $100) on the value of your home if and when you sell it, nearly double the fee to get your car inspected, a new tax on car repairs, purchasing a new car, and don’t forget those wonderful “abusive driver fees.”

While many of the members of the General Assembly haven’t been able to back away from this legislative disaster fast enough, Rob Wittman has become one of its staunchest defenders ( The Journal Press: “The Reality of Abusive Driver Fees,” August 8, 2007 in King George County).

Fact #2: The independent conservative candidate, Lucky Narain, has been attacking Wittman over having voted for all this after signing a “taxpayer protection pledge.” This was not supposed to be a plug for Lucky, but his action got our attention. Lucky was interviewed by Andy Fox of WAVY 10 news in Tidewater where Lucky revealed the complaint in his literature. When the reporter confronted Wittman with the purported pledge, Wittman claimed he had no idea where the pledge document came from, insinuating that either the document was fraudulent, or that he just couldn’t imagine signing such a thing.

It was his signature. He did sign it. It is a REAL document. In 2005, Wittman was running for the House of Delegates. He needed and was seeking the endorsement and backing of then First Congressional District Chairman Russ Moulton. Up until that time, Wittman was refusing to sign any no-tax pledge, including that of the Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). So Mr. Moulton presented Wittman with his own pledge and told him if he didn’t sign it, he would do without Moulton’s support. Thus, Wittman finally complied.

Since Wittman has already proven having difficulty with the truth and keeping his word then, how can we trust anything he tells us today? What was that he was saying about the integrity and leadership to change Washington? He asserts that his paramount qualification is his long history as a politician. How comforting is that?

We should ask him, before he can go to Washington: Have you signed a Taxpayer Protection Pledge to represent us in Congress? If not, will you sign one now? And even if he did, should we really trust him?

  5. We’ll be sure to look into this. We’ve already looked into and uncovered who was behind registering robwitman.com and forwarding it to Lucky’s website.

  6. I’ve been receiving the emails as well. I have my hunches as to who is behind and just waiting for the solid evidence to prove it. Once we have it we’ll publish.
