Del. Bob Marshall is set to announce his campaign for U.S. Senate today during a news conference at the state capitol in Richmond. Marshall will face off against former Gov. Jim Gilmore in a nominating convention in Richmond this June.
Anyone writing Bob Marshall off as a one-issue candidate (that issue being pro-life), is sadly mistaken. In his last reelection, Marshall not only was endorsed by the VA Society for Human Life and the NRA, but also by the Sierra Club and League of Conservation Voters. He has also been an outspoken critic of the abusive driver fees. While the press and Dems will try to pigeon-hole Marshall as being strictly a pro-life candidate (expect the “chemical Love Canals for frat house playboys” quote to be dragged out frequently), that is pretty far from the truth.
And a note about that quote, notice that “Love Canals” is capitalized. Most Dems and libs online have let their minds wander into the gutter and obviously think that this is a sexual reference. Some environmentalists they are. This is an obvious reference to the Love Canal environmental disaster of the 1970s near Niagara Falls, NY and Marshall was making an analogy here, putting forward that the chemicals in the emergency contraception could be harmful to these women’s bodies. I guess that is what happens when you use an historical reference in a society where a large segment of people are ignorant of history.

I actually find the “frathouse playboys” part of the quote more bothersome. It makes it look less like he was opposing Plan B on principled, pro-life grounds, and more like he was the guy who wasn’t invited to the party so he called campus security. He’s right on the issue, but when Republicans look principled, they win; when they look angry, they lose.
The “chemical love canal” quote is not what will do him and what puts him so far out of touch with the mainstream. What will really damage him was his attempt to intimidate doctors into being afraid to prescribe contraception (birth control pills specifically) by leveling frivolous criminal charges at them.
I’m pro-life, but honestly, who in their right mind thinks that making birth control difficult to obtain is going to cut down on unwanted pregnancies and abortions?
Marshall is pigeon-holing himself, he needs no help from the Dems:

And the details of Gilmore’s life positions that he is supposedly basing his candidacy on is either wrong or made up:

Bob Marshall is going to beat Gilmore! Watch and see for yourself. This will be a very strong message to the rank and file GOP NOT to forget about the grassroots. Gilmore sealed his fate when he wanted a convention not realize he could be challenged from the right on social issues. The grassroots has been searching (They looked at a General, Saxman, Cantor, Allen again and many other) for a candidate to go against Gilmore just because they think he had his chance and his completely unelectable. He also leans pro-choice.
If Marshall loses in November, he will go down in a blaze of glory having used up all his ammo and not compromising his principles. The Democrats and Warner poke fun at him because they know he is great with people.
If
[...] Gov. Jim Gilmore has an opponent for the GOP nomination to replace Sen. John Warner. Del. Bob Marshall, of Prince William Co., [...]
If you understand the way “the pill” works, i.e. it renders the utereus hostile towards implantation and thus you have a conception that aborts. A baby is lost. Its that simple. So, if you cut down on contraception and contraception devices that inhibit implantation of the conceived baby, then you cut down abortions.
