McCain Speech at CPAC
McCain is receiving wild, enthusiastic applause as he begins his speech at CPAC.
Acknowledges differences on issues.
Stresses the areas where his record is in agreement with conservatives.
Says he is “Proud to be a conservative.”
Liberty is a right conferred by “Our Creator, not by governments.”
Speaks about Reagan’s influence upon him.
Says he will not sign a bill with ANY earmarks in it.
Will fight for the line-item veto and oppose expansion of entitlement programs.
Pledges to reform entitlement programs so that gov’t won’t make promises to Americans that it can’t keep.
Promises to cut taxes and start out by making the Bush tax cuts permanent.
Talks about his long-standing pro-life commitment and support for human rights everywhere. (McCain is a key member of the International Republican Institute that sends election observers around the world. Full disclosure, I was an IRI observer in ‘97 for the Mexican federal elections, the first completely free and fair national elections in Mexico that saw the conservative PAN party win control of their Congress.)
