Is “Good Time Charlie” Behind This Response?

ICE arrested 34 illegal aliens in Manassas yesterday.  So what was the response from the PWC Police when asked for comment by the media?

While Prince William County police officers were on the scenes Monday, officials tried to separate the federal work-site arrests from the county’s policy allowing police officers to detain illegal immigrants who commit local crimes or traffic violations.

“We didn’t have anything to do with the operation,” said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, a police spokeswoman. “We put uniforms there when another agency comes into our jurisdiction.”

Hardly a ringing endorsement of what ICE did.  Sounds more like they are trying to distance themselves from these arrests as much as possible.  Is Police Chief “Good Time Charlie” Deane directing his spokeswoman to do this?  If so, why?  Does this have anything to do with Deane seeking to sabotage the county’s anti-illegal alien resolution at every twist and turn?
