It is one thing for PWC Police Chief “Good Time Charlie” Deane to meet with community organizations and groups of residents to facilitate better understanding about the role of the county police in PWC’s crackdown on illegal immigration. In fact, he is required to do just such a thing by the resolution implementing the crackdown. (Note that the best way to get Deane to actually do his job is to have him directly ordered to do something by the BOCS, otherwise it is a crap shoot as to whether something will be done or not.)
It is quite another thing for the police chief to hold a joint public meeting with the Mexican general consul, which apparently (until we learn otherwise) was in contravention of U.S. State Dept. regulations and protocol. We’ve already seen Deane place himself on a pedastal as if he were the 9th county supervisor. Now he’s apparently placed himself on level with the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. It is only a matter of time until he proclaims himself to be the 5th Beatle. (At least he already has the uniform for the cover of the Sgt. Pepper album.)
PWC Chairman Corey Stewart is trying to pry some answers from Good Time Charlie.
Chief Deane,
I found out through the press this morning that you are planning on having a meeting with the Mexican consul concerning the Board’s policy on Illegal Immigration. I have several questions I would like to have answered and provided to the Board before the 7 p.m. meeting tonight.
1. Who initiated the first meeting with the Mexican consul?
2. How many meetings have occurred, when and where have they occurred, what specifically has been discussed at these meetings and were notes taken to be provided to the BOCS?
3. How long has this meeting tonight been planned?
4. Do you have any plans to meet with other Foreign National Government officials?
5. Was the U.S. Department of State contacted to ensure proper diplomatic protocol is being met in regards to these meetings? If so, who was contacted and when?
6. Did you inform the County Executive of these meetings? If so, who was contacted and when?
7. Did you inform any of the Board of County Supervisors of these meetings? If so, who was contacted and when?
8. Did you contact or seek advice from the County Attorney’s office regarding these meetings to ensure that the County is in full compliance of Federal Law? If so, who was contacted and when?
9. Which Mexican National Government officials have you been meeting with and what is their contact information?
10. Were any members of our Congressional Delegation notified of these meetings? If so, who was contacted and when?
My office is being contacted by many citizens who would like information regarding this meeting.

Deane’s initial response was to obfuscate and not respond to any of these specific questions, just express his bewilderment. These are reasonable questions to ask, especially if Deane did NOT contact the State Dept. and go through proper diplomatic channels. The BOCS has an obligation to know whether the county’s police chief may have violated federal law.

Hope all is well. Good post.
I wonder if Chief Deane anticipated if meeting with Mexican government officials would create a furor. He should have, but considering how far this mess with illegal immigrants has gone, he probably did not. After all, consider some of the nonsense that has come out of President Bush’s mouth. Have you not wondered if Bush sometimes thinks he works for the citizens of Mexico?
What does Deane’s conversations with Mexican diplomats prove? Based upon the interest of the Mexican general consul and Deane’s perception that he needs to keep another nation’s diplomats informed, Deane must be providing police services to substancial numbers Mexican foreign nationals. Without question, these Mexican are illegally in our country.
Don’t these conversations also help to establish the real problem? Why should we be concern that Deane is talking to the Mexican general consul? Is Deane setting our foreign policy? Of course not. Deane is merely informing the Mexican general consul about the practices of the Prince William County police. So what is there to excited about? There is the real problem. We know why the Mexican general consul is involved. We have a bunch of unwelcome guests in our country, people who feel more loyalty to another nation than they do to our country.
We have a potential Mexican fifth column in our nation. Would Mexico tolerate such a American fifth column in their nation? No.
