    -- President Abraham Lincoln - 1864

Obama’s Other Radical Associate

Much has already been made of Sen. Barack Obama’s spiritual adviser, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.  Just today in the WSJ, Clinton crony Lanny Davis revives the issue out of “concern” that the Republicans will use it against Obama in Nov.  (Obviously, this has more to do with trying to stop Obama from beating Hillary Clinton in the primary.)  Davis brings up the following quotes from Wright and once again asks why Obama didn’t step up and say something at the time.  Only now that the public knows what Obama already knew does he say in milquetoast fashion that he would have left the congregation had Wright not already stepped down.

- “We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye. We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.”
– Sept. 16, 2001 (the first Sunday after 9/11)

- “The government . . . wants us to sing God Bless America. No, no, no. God damn America; that’s in the bible, for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human.”
– 2003

- “The United States of White America.”

Well, believe it or not, Obama has an even crazier associate by the name of Bill Ayers. Here’s a little primer on Mr. Ayers…

  • Leader of the 1960s and 70s domestic terrorist group The Weather Underground
  • Widely quoted as saying, “Kill all the rich people. … Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents.”
  • Participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, of the Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972
  • Here’s the money quote by Ayers from an article by Jonah Goldberg –

“Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon.”

This excerpt from William Ayers’ memoir appeared in the New York Times on Sept. 11, 2001 — the day al-Qaeda terrorists crashed hijacked planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Ayers, once a leader in the Weather Underground — the group that declared “war” on the U.S. government in 1970 — told the Times, “I don’t regret setting bombs,” and, “I feel we didn’t do enough.”

    1. Obama is to the left of McGovern!

    2. Well, I can swallow the notion that Obama is to the left of McGovern easily enough. The notion that Obama is a mad bomber I find a bit less likely.

This “evidence” is inadequate and biased. Consider the problem with infering guilt by association. Yes, Obama has from time to time spent time with some rather whacky people. However, that does not mean he approves of sticking bombs in the Capitol.

What is puzzling is that these former members of the Weather Underground hold respected positions. Have they reformed? Apparently, they have not..

Why do we allow such radicals to serve as teachers? When we put such people in such influential positions, how people deserving of our respect avoid working with them? What does it say about what we want our young people to learn?

    3. Well said, CT. I’m not inferring guilt by association, I’m questioning his choice of associations. This is part of a troubling pattern that is developing as to whom he chooses to associate with.
