From today’s WashPo:
In his remarks Sunday night, Warner touted his gubernatorial successes and only touched briefly on his Senate campaign issues. He never mentioned Gilmore or Marshall by name but took a couple of jabs at Gilmore for leaving the state with a deficit.
Of course he didn’t really touch on Senate campaign issues. He doesn’t have any. And if he spoke about what he really believed, he wouldn’t win.
And since he is on the campaign trail, it must be time for Marky Mark to lie again.
It is impossible for any governor to leave another one with a deficit. By law, Virginia must have a balanced budget. In fact, Marky Mark inherited a surplus from Gilmore. Thus, Marky Mark is either a liar or a moron. (In my opinion, the jury is still out on that.)
Analysts say Warner needs to run the same way he did in 2001, when he cast himself as a moderate Democrat who would bring a common-sense business approach to the state while staying above the partisan fray.
In other words, replicate his issue-less campaign and lie about what he’d actually do. This time, he has a record to defend marred by four years of Enron-style accounting, though.
