Congrats to Bearing Drift for helping shape the transportation debate

Bearing Drift did yeoman’s work drilling down into poll answers on transportation funding that the Virginia-Pilot had been touting.  In doing so, they blew a hole in some of what the Pilot had been saying.

Here is what is key:

Boy! Did the last 5 years get wasted in NOT passing a constitutional amendment to “lock box” transportation funding (a Kaine campaign promise, just in case no one remembers)

Pretty much. We’ve been onboard with this for a long time:

Until you lock up the transportation trust fund and firewall it so you can’t just dip into it any time you feel like it for unrelated purposes, mainstream Republicans, independents and even fair-minded Democrats aren’t going to go along with your call for a tax increase.

and

The problem we have in Virginia is there are no firewalls for the transportation trust fund. Gov. Timmy! promised during the campaign (for what that is worth) he wouldn’t raise gas taxes until such safeguards were in place and Sen. Chi-Ching-e$ter, for all of his hot air about transportation funding, refuses to allow the senate to consider firewalls for the trust fund.

Timmy!, before we show you the money, show us the firewalls…
