The Rise of Energy: Congressman Cantor Gets It

Congressman CantorLast night, I attended a fundraiser for Congressman Eric Cantor (R-VA) who is running for reelection in the 7th District.  He gave a warmly received speech and emphasized the inept approach to energy led by Congressional Democrats citing their opposition to new nuclear plants, opposition to drilling in ANWAR and off our coasts, and a bizarre fixation on punishing big oil corporations for some alleged wrong.

Back when she took office in 2006 and when gas was $2.33 on average, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said:

“Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.”

Today, the average price of gas is $3.61.  How’s that for ”common sense?”  True common sense would be to provide incentives to oil companies to increase our oil supply, not assess penalties on those who are successful in the marketplace.

The middle class continues to get squeezed folks and Congressional Democrats continue to fail Americans on energy.
