In other states, a handful of multinational corporations bought the leading politicians, then those politicians pushed through the idea of privately funded toll roads. This approach has proven to be much more expensive than traditional revenue sources and the states that employ these multinationals have given up sovereignty over a key part of the People's infrastructure.

An addition to the gas tax is still the simplest and cheapest way to fund the transportation needs of the Commonwealth. Mr. Bolling is still singing the regional taxing authority tune that caused several Republicans to lose their seats last election. The Republican ticket is also advocating greater use of Toll Roads. Virginians hate toll roads and any politician who utters the word, Toll. McDonnell-Bolling-Cuccinelli may be the next ticket to go down in flames due to that single, despicable word: Tolls!
