‘Bama Goes to Washington

Much like Jimmy Stewart in ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington’, Obama is doing a lot of learning along the way.  Take for example the Senator’s recent reversal on the Iraq war.

Gone is the 16 week pullout strategy advertised during his campaign with Hillary.  In its place is a familiar new plan: listen to the generals on the ground.

Why the change?  Well, it’s hard to get the nomination of a party so riddled with guilt over being American by saying essentially what President Bush has said since Day one.  Listening to your generals of course is an extremely prudent thing to do.

Especially when you have absolutely no military background whatsoever.  You see Mr. Obama has no service to his country.  He never put on the uniform.  Heck, he won’t even take Sen. McCain up on a trip to Iraq to see how this war is going he’s supposedly going to lead…

You can bet he knows all too well this distinction with Sen. McCain.

This of course was revealed when Gen. Wesley Clark was dug up from the political graveyard last week for the purposes of making a ridiculous swipe at McCain’s military service — just so that Obama could come on stage and say how wrong it was.  Does anyone in their right mind believe this was not by design?

Consider Clark’s statement that McCain did not hold “executive responsibility in the Navy, adding, “I don’t think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.”

The next day, up pops Obama to make this statement:

“For those who have fought under the flag of this nation – for the young veterans I meet when I visit Walter Reed; for those like John McCain who have endured physical torment in service to our country – no further proof of such sacrifice is necessary,” Obama said. “And let me also add that no one should ever devalue that service, especially for the sake of a political campaign, and that goes for supporters on both sides.”

Wow what a stateman.  What a guy!  What a load.

Sorry, it’s all too Clintonian for me.  Put up a subordinate, put your hand in their back as a puppeteer does, make them say something stupid, and then denounce it the next day.  You know Obama has reached the precipice of Machiavellian thought when he adopts this tired and cynical Clinton tactic.

So at least all the cards are on the table now thanks to the top Obama strategists.

Look, if you voted for Obama for “hope” and “change” in the primary, you’re not getting that – you’re getting a frustrated ”Mr. Smith” who instead of fighting has thrown in the towel, declared himself malleable, and who in the process has shown what he really thinks of the American people.
