Barry Obama has canceled a visit with wounded U.S. troops in Germany, claiming that it would be “inappropriate” to do so on a trip funded by his presidential campaign.
In response, the McCain campaign stated:
“Barack Obama is wrong. It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military.”
Perhaps Obama feared that his nutroots contributors wouldn’t appreciate that some of their money was spent in such a manner.
You know all that good press that Obama has been building up on this whole trip? Well, he just pooped all over it.

According to what I read in the Ace of Spades blog, the reason Obama didn’t visit with the troops is because he couldn’t bring the cameras with him.
I am incensed that the McCain campaign would stoop to such petty sniping about a canceled troop visit when such pressing issues loom over this nation’s future well-being. I want to hear real solutions to real problems not asinine tit-for-tat sound bytes crafted to nudge opinion poles a point or two.
Mr. McCain first lost my respect when he let George Bush walk all over his 2000 campaign in SC. Then he sank further when he coddled up to “W” like a long lost friend for he sake of party unity. Mr. McCain might be a war hero for making it though an experience I would not wish on my worst enemies. Then again, if we are to believe his former captors, he was treated with compassion and respect and the prison experience is a complete fabrication. I don’t know. Regardless, he abandoned “straight talk” a long time ago. What I hear now is more Bush-speak bullshit, only without the fake twang.
Come on Mr. McCain. If you want to be my President, win back my respect and stop bashing the candidate I currently endorse.
As a former Army officer (1966-69), I can say that visits by politicians to the troops were usually just a pain for everybody involved. Time had to be taken to prepare for the visit, most soldiers and wounded troops got little or no benefit from the visit, the mission was adversely impacted by the interruption, and the vast majority of what was said was just phony words (and we knew it). Wounded troops need the bes medicalcare we can provide, not some phony visit from somebody running for office. Obama probably made the right decision. He has consistently voted the right way on veterans’ issues, and that is what is important. Former CPT, MSC, AUS
