"That some should be rich, shows that others may become rich, and, hence, is just encouragement to industry and enterprise."

    -- President Abraham Lincoln - 1864

"The supply-side claim is not a claim. It is empirically true and historically convincing that with lower rates of taxation on labor and capital, the factors of production, you'll get a bigger economy."

    -- U.S. Rep. Jack Kemp

Gerry Connolly – Self-loathing Catholic?

From the Keith Fimian campaign:

Gerry Connolly Sides with Anti-Catholic Smears

Fairfax, VA – Today the D.C. Examiner reported Gerry Connolly, candidate for Congress, was asked about the anti-Catholic smears being sent out on his behalf. Surprisingly, Connolly, who is a Catholic, refused to disown the smears.

Connolly went one step further and embraced the anti-Catholic attacks saying of his opponent, “He’s trying to pretend he is something he’s not.” That was Connolly’s justification for endorsing attacks the non-partisan Catholic League decried as “anti-Catholic bigotry.”

Connolly and his supporters have falsely attacked Keith Fimian on a number of issues. They have claimed he wants to outlaw contraception and that women should be submissive. But a look at the facts that Connolly and his allies cite, prove there is no substance to those claims. Furthermore Fimian has specifically denied that these are his positions on the issues.

Connolly’s supporters have also suggested that if Fimian is elected the Pope will “legislate” in Congress.

In response, Keith Fimian said, “I am new to politics, so I am shocked that people would falsely put words in my mouth. I am proud to be Catholic and pro-life. I’ve never hid those facts. I am also running to reduce gas prices, help our economy and end the culture of corruption. Gerry Connolly is afraid to deal with issues and instead is endorsing these false, bigoted attacks to cover up his embarrassing failed record.”

###

Gerry Connolly is not only an embarassment as a Catholic and an elected official, but as an allegedly sentient being.

  1. I have now received FOUR of these despicable mailers, three of which have the same content simply reformatted, plus one more tonight just repeating the “submissive” part. What’s really outrageous about all this is that, if you go to the E5Men.org website, you will find that there is NO mention of women being “submissive” anywhere on that website. Use a search engine on it: you won’t find the word “submissive” or “submit” anywhere.

Yes, the group is named after Ephesians 5, which also contains one verse about women being submissive, but the point of the group is to encourage MEN to sacrifice for their wives! If the unmentioned contents of Ephesians 5 are enough to make someone guilty of repression of women, then I guess anyone who believes in the Bible is “extreme” and “disturbing.”

  2. [...] connect with, and it may well be that he has exhausted that pool.  This would explain the rather desperate attacks he’s launched on Fimian’s faith a few weeks back, as he really needs to come up with [...]
