From AP:
But the former TV sportscaster spoke in calm, TV-friendly tones reminiscent of Ronald Reagan. Like the former GOP president, Palin warmed the crowd with quips and jokes.
From Time magazine:
the hall that felt like a tomb on Monday might as well have seen the Second Coming of Ronald Reagan, so ecstatic was the crowd.
And from John Fund at the WSJ:
Twenty years after Ronald Reagan left office, Republicans who have long missed him may have found a future Margaret Thatcher.
That is mighty high praise and not necessarily misplaced, either. Virtucon contributor Rittinger wrote in an email that Sarah Palin’s speech was ”the best I have seen from a Republican since the Gipper walked off the stage in 92.”
Palin has “The Gift” in such a way that perhaps no one has had since Reagan. While Bill Clinton possessed “The Gift,” he was never able to match the level set by Reagan. And while Barry Obama does appear to be talented and may very well possess “The Gift,” take away the teleprompters and he shines not quite as brightly. (By the way, Palin’s teleprompter malfunctioned during her speech last night, but you’d never know it by the way she delivered it.)
What is it about former sportscasters who get elected as Republican governors?
