Bill Day — Against The Bailout Until Wittman Was Against It, Then Day Was For It

And the entertainment from Bill “The Crush Puppy” Day just keeps on coming:

9/24/08

“I’m totally against it. I haven’t met anybody yet who’s for it. I’ve talked to hundreds of people. They’re all saying, ‘Why are we bailing out a company that couldn’t make it? Why do we have to bail out a company that made a huge mistake?’ That’s 100 percent of the people that I talk to. It’s another huge burden on the taxpayers.”

9/30/08

Democrat Bill Day, who is running against Wittman, offered a more nuanced view.

“I’m not in favor of bailing anything out,” he said. “If we’re talking about buying assets and protecting taxpayers, that’s something I would consider. The first step is we need to appraise the assets … before we just go out and write a check.”

10/3/08

Day said. “We need to approve this thing on its own merit. Not with the sweeteners.”

10/4/08

Day said Thursday he probably would have voted for the original bill. “At that point, It wasn’t a bailout. It was a working out.” He said.

VA Gazette

10/8/08
Bill Day, the Fauquier County Democrat running against Wittman, put out a press release yesterday attacking Wittman for his “no” vote on the bill.

Day did say last week that he was beginning to hear from district residents as he campaigned that, “We need to move on this.”

  1. [...] Riley at Virginia Virtucon writes that Bill Day, Democratic candidate for the 1st District, has taken all sides possible on the bailout: Daily Press – [...]

  2. As I pointed out to D.J., Wittman was for the bailout before he was against it.

  3. Actually, Wittman never voted for the bailout. He considered the legislation, as anyone in elected office should, and then was consistently against it once he made up his mind.

  4. Riley, I never said Wittman voted for the bailout. I said he was voted it before he was against it:

”I have deep reservations with the government’s involvement in private financial markets. However, allowing all of these markets to fail would create an even bigger burden on individuals. It is clear that the actions announced by President Bush and Secretary Paulson are necessary to protect our economy in the face of substantial challenges that threaten the stability of the American financial system,” said Wittman.

We have to rely on D.J.’s blog post for the press release because the original has gone down the memory hole.

  5. I meant to say, ”I said he was for it before he was against it”.

    Sorry, massive headache right now.

  6. The outcome VA will turn blue
    Mark Warner is Senator
    Bill Day Rep
And you guessed it President Obama

Republicans have done nothing for veterans like myself returning from Irag. My friends who are disfigured for life can’t even get benefits. You have torn down the union workers. And yeah people like Bush and Cheney have filled their pockets with our money. In the last 8 years the bush administration has raped mutilated our country. And that is what you want to represent. My dog can be better vice-president than Palin. Being Gov. in Alaska is being the Mayor of Fredericksburg. Please give me break she couldn’t run a wet paper bag. Besides according to her as Vice-President she is going to be in charge of the US Senate. McCain who was involved in the biggest scandal in this country with Loan and Savings Bank. Let’s talk about experience. Will McCain show the same leadership when he was a POW, when he spilled his guts to the enemy and told him everything. Man please he needs to go home look after his shaking and retire somewhere. What does he know about the average man or the poor man, nothing. He will never know what its like because he never was. On a final note congratulate yourselves all for helping Barack Obama become President of America and making MLK’s dream come alive.
