Will the Redskins beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on November 3rd? If they do will John McCain win the Presidential Election on November 4th?
The Redskins spent a long time in the 20th Century predicting the outcome of the Presidential race. Since 1940 if the Redskins won the last game prior to a Presidential Election the incumbent party won the election and retained the White House. This streak, of course, was broken in 2004 when the Redskins lost the Green Bay Packers, but George Bush was re-elected President.
Could 2004 just have been a fluke? The outcome of the election was tight and decided by one state (OH), maybe the gods of prediction just misread something and gave the Packers a win. Or maybe Brett Farve is more powerful than even the President.
Interesting enough another story reported here on Virgina Virtucon has a similar theme. The Nickelodeon poll of kids for President has predicted the winner of the real election every year except for 2004.
On November 3rd I’ll be wearing my burgandy and gold (or maroon and black if your in Zorn world) for more reasons than one! Hail to the Redskins! and Hip! Hip! Hooray! for John McCain!
