Michael Steele Bloggers Conference Call Recap

Fmr. MD Lt. Gov. Michael Steele held a conference call today with conservative bloggers.  In it, he discussed how the GOP has underutilized bloggers and various strategies to reach out to a broader audience with its message.

In a passionate opening, Steele said that he was “sick and tired” of the whining, of Republicans acting like its the end of the world, of Republicans who think that the path to victory is being Democrat-lite.

Instead, Steele pointed to Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan who defined issues for their times, but in a timeless way.  He pointed to the core values and principles that they championed as evidence that the Republican Party IS the conservative party.  When we spread our message of our value of life, hard work, security and enterprise and link them to bread and butter issues that voters care about, we win.  As he put it, there is nothing ugly, mean, nasty or pejorative about doing this.

Steele then asked a very good question.  Exactly what was the party’s message in 2006 and 2008?  Where did the leaders want to take the party in those years?

The Lt. Gov. stated that he wants to keep things unpredictable and the other side guessing what the GOP will do next.

Back in 2006, I supported Steele for RNC Chairman.  I’m convinced even more now that Steele is the right man.  And if he incorporates the ideas being put forward on RebuildTheParty.com, I see some real reasons to be optimistic.  (Also blogging on this, Bearing Drift and Leslie Carbone.)

  2. Jim- I’m sorry for calling you Riley, I thought that was your first name.

What kind of chance does Michael Steele have in becoming the RNC Chair? I read that Duncan is thinking about running for the position again, and that would be a crime. He was invisible.

  3. From the link above to RebuildTheParty.com, I checked it out. Before reading any of the comments, I joined the website. After reading the comments, I know it is not where I choose to put my support. After reading about 30 comments I was repulsed as to the language, lewd and gross posts. Apparently there is no moderator or monitor. In addition, there were some really great ideas posted there until the most radical Ron Paul supporters showed up and took over the site. I remember the worst of them from the primaries. They obnoxiously took over every site and online poll they could. And, thank you very much, I don’t need to be educated in every looney conspiracy theory they promote.

  4. Well, I’m in favor of Fred Thompson for Chairman of the RNC. He will put his “First Principles” at the forefront of the party and that is what I think we need.
