Jim “Don’t Call Me Brian” Moran may have just lost reelection in 2010, cost his brother the 2009 Dem gubernatorial nomination and made things more difficult at family holiday gatherings all in one fell swoop. (That’s quite an accomplishment, even for a goober of his magnitude.)
How did a guy who has been accused of everything from beating his wife to beating a child who he claimed was trying to carjack him to making anti-Semitic remarks to public drunkenness manage to pull off such a stupendous feat?
Well, the fool put it in his own words in the WashPo. To sum it up, Jim Moran is saying, “It’s okay to bring terrorists to Alexandria”:
Taking the easy route and joining the chorus of those crying “not in my back yard” is appealing. But that’s not the Alexandria I know and have represented in Congress for nearly 20 years. Even before that, I served as mayor of the city, and I am confident that if asked to step forward, Alexandria would demonstrate resolve for a higher purpose, echoing John F. Kennedy’s call to accept the challenge presented because it is what happens to be right and good for our nation.
. . .
But should President Obama determine that Alexandria needs to play a reasonably limited role in a nationwide effort to bring justice to the Guantanamo detainees and close this unfortunate chapter of American history, I am confident that Alexandrians will stand strong as they always have: gritting their teeth, stiffening their spines and carrying the load required so that the American values of justice and the rule of law are not overridden but, rather, respected and honored, as is our heritage as a great nation.
Sure, there are some braindead MoveOn.org types who will side with Moran on this, but you can bet your last dollar that the majority of people in the City of Alexandria (and in the 8th Cong. Dist. for that matter) will disagree strongly with Moran on this. If this doesn’t engender a strong Dem primary challenge to Moran in 2010, then nothing will and could even possibly lead to a GOPer taking down the Mouth of NOVA once and for all.

Riley, thanks for the post.
Do you think this is the best angle to go after Jim Moran on, or are there better issues to focus on? He’s bit as close to teflon as one can get.
Something like this could be his Achille’s heel, though. If there ever was a NIMBY bunch, it is the residents of Alexandria.
