With roughly half the precincts reporting, Creigh “Dirty” Deeds and Jody “Financial Fantasyland” Wagner have insurmountable leads and have secured their party’s nominations for Governor and Lt. Gov. respectively.
So, the race is now set and the Democrats have selected as their standard bearer an ethically challenged (hence why we call him “Dirty”) version of Jerry Kilgore. Way to go guys. Deeds couldn’t beat Bob McDonnell four years ago before he tacked to the left on taxes and guns (costing him the support of the NRA that he had in 2005, which led to his near victory.) At least Terry McAuliffe could have pulled a Mark Warner and bought the office (while funding a boatload of House candidates to join him in Richmond to boot.) Deeds is going down in November. Hard. Dems who voted for Deeds on account of his “electability” should see how well that worked out for the Republicans who nominated John McCain because the media told us that he was “electable.”
And it comes as no surprise that Dems nominated Wagner for their No. 2 slot. Talk about being clueless on the economy, this woman has made more incorrect predictions than Dionne Warwick’s Psychic Hotline. It would all be funny except her incompetence has thrown the state’s budget into disarray with her simple “couple hundred million dollar” errors. Expect Wagner to spend much of the campaign scouring Virginia in search of the elusive Lt. Governor’s “mansion.”
While a Brian Moran – Mike Signer ticket would have been a gift from heaven for the GOP, there was never any realistic chance of that happening. But a Deeds – Wagner ticket is almost as good.
