Once Again, Bob Marshall Makes Perfect Sense

Here once more is an example of Del. Bob Marshall working in a bipartisan manner to actually achieve a reasonable solution to a problem facing Virginians.  Marshall is pushing to have Congress allow Virginia to contract with private businesses to operate restaurants and gas stations at our interstate rest stops.  Without such a waiver, these rest areas which are slated to close on July 21st will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

So, to all of Marshall’s detractors who claim that he is but a one issue legislator only concerned about protecting human life, here is more proof that you couldn’t be any more wrong.

  1. Please educate me on this. I have seen private restaurants and gas stations in West Virginia and (I believe) Pennslyvania. How does the US Congress come into play for Virginia’s rest stops and why won’t they alllow us to do the same as the other states?

  2. This is exactly why Bob Marshall remains very popular with a wide variety of constituents.

  3. Chipper,

The private entities at rest stops on I-95 in Maryland, Delaware and along the Pa Turnpike and WV Turnpike are due to the fact that those roadways are tolled and controlled by authorities. As such, they, for the most part, have little to no Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funding. Since the rest stops in VA are not on toll facilities and have been, and continue to be, mainly funded by the FHWA, they are subject to Federal regulations that prohibit private enterprise on public property.

  4. Trust me, Riley. I still believe Marshall is a one issue candidate… when it serves his own political end.

Why on earth would he want to work with the pro-abortion Mark Warner? Is the suggestion that he can put aside that difference every once and awhile, even though last year it was the end all be all to his existence?

“Tuesday, Marshall said he approached Warner and Wolf, who represents western Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park, because he has worked with them in the past and because they represent both major political parties.”

I’ll agree that he’s worked with him in the past alright…

  5. Gotcha. By the way, according to today’s Richmond Times Disgust, Governor Kaine and his staff came up with the privatization idea for the rest stops, not Bob Marshall

  6. Gee A. C. GIlmore, I was able to work with “keep abortion legal for 8 to 12 weeks” Governor Jim Gilmore on different issues just as I have with Mark Warner and other pro-choice elected officials.
