Bolling Takes Commanding Lead in Lieutenant Governor’s Race
-Bolling has nearly $1M more cash on hand than Wagner-
-Wagner campaign sputters post primary-
Campaign finance reports filed on Wednesday served as another indicator that Bill Bolling has taken a commanding lead over Jody Wagner in the Lieutenant Governor’s race.
As of June 30, Bolling had raised a total of $2.1 million with nearly $1 million more cash on hand than Wagner – Bolling had $1,117,000 in the bank, compared to Jody Wagner’s $188,000.
Bolling also raised more money for the May 28 – June 30th period than any other down ticket candidate, while Wagner raised the least.
A comparison of Bolling and Wagner’s fundraising reports shows:
- During the period, Bolling outraised Wagner by 58% – $366,141 to $231,661
- During the period, Bolling received more than four times as many contributions than Wagner – 1657 to 407.
- Bolling has $1.117 million cash on hand, compared to Wagner’s $188,000
- Of Wagner’s cash receipts for the period, over 31% came from major labor unions and fellow Democrats.
- Overall, Bolling has received over 3,200 contributions more than Wagner – 5,623 to 2,411
- Wagner has the least cash on hand of any statewide candidate. In fact, three candidates for House of Delegates have more cash than Wagner.
In addition to the commanding fundraising lead, Bolling also leads Wagner in the polls. In a poll released by Democratic Public Policy Polling firm on July 7th, Lieutenant Governor Bolling led Wagner 46 percent to 40 percent, despite Wagner spending $250,000 on television in the final weeks of the Democrat primary.
Last week, Bill Bolling joined Bob McDonnell to announce the latest in a series of policy proposals to create more jobs for Virginians, and Bolling kicked off his statewide “Jobs for Virginians” tour.
The McDonnell/Bolling proposals included appointing Bolling to the position of Chief Jobs Creation Officer, where he will coordinate Virginia’s economic development program; dramatically increasing the size of the Governor’s Economic Opportunity Fund; and expanding the Major Facility Business Tax Credit program.
By comparison, since Wagner was appointed Secretary of Finance in January 2006, Virginia’s unemployment rate has increased 130% and 165,000 more Virginians are unemployed. Additionally, Wagner’s budgets missed revenue projections by more than 20%, resulting in over $5B in state budget deficits.
It is apparent that Lieutenant Governor Bolling’s re-election campaign is going very well, while Wagner’s campaign is going nowhere.###
