- 24 Hours After McDonnell Pledges Cut in Pay, So Does Deeds -

RICHMOND – Democratic candidate for governor Creigh Deeds today continued his amazing streak of adopting positions and policies already announced by Republican Bob McDonnell by giving his standard “me too” answer on whether he would take a cut in salary if elected governor.  On Wednesday, McDonnell told the Associated Press he would take a voluntary reduction.  One day later, Deeds said the same.

McDonnell Leads .

“[McDonnell] would be willing to cut his own pay as governor to help the state weather its worst fiscal crisis in decades,” reported the AP on Wednesday.  ”‘I’d be glad to make that a part of the overall fix,’ he said in committing to a pay reduction.”

“He cut the budget of the attorney general’s office and his own paycheck in his final year before stepping down this spring to run for governor full time,” the AP reported.

“Deeds also told the AP that he, too, would take a pay cut if elected,” reported the AP one day later.  ”His Republican opponent this fall, Bob McDonnell, told the AP Wednesday he would cut his salary.”
