Creigh “What’s In Your Wallet?” Deeds must think that it is Halloween already, because he’s trying to disguise himself as a tax cutter and portray Bob McDonnell as a tax hiker in the latest phase of his pathetic campaign. At least Deeds is finally engaging on issues that Virginians care about. Unfortunately for him, he is now playing on McDonnell’s home turf by McDonnell’s rules and it won’t end pretty for Deeds.
First up, Deeds launched the following negative attacks on Bob McDonnell (note the date that Deeds chose to go negative and do this):

~ New Ads Focus Attention on McDonnell’s Own Record Of Higher Taxes ~
ALEXANDRIA – Today the Creigh Deeds campaign released three new advertisements – one television, and two on the radio – responding to blatantly false negative attacks launched by Bob McDonnell. Bob McDonnell hypocritically attacks Creigh Deeds on taxes when he is guilty of a long list of votes resulting in higher taxes on hardworking Virginians.
“Tax Man” and “Disaster” will be aired in Roanoke, Tri Cities and Harrisonburg media markets. “Breaks” will be aired in Richmond and Tidewater media markets.
The TV ad may be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m5xKBM54fM
Scripts for all three can be viewed below.
“TAX MAN” :30 TV
Narrator: The truth about Bob McDonnell and taxes on you.
McDonnell supported increasing the sales tax — twice. He supported a new gas tax. Taxes on fuel and diesel. On Groceries. Drivers Licenses. Soft Drinks. Even a tax on Hunting and Fishing.
No wonder the most respected Republican leaders on the budget are supporting Creigh Deeds and his plan to cut taxes for any business that creates one new job.
Creigh Deeds: I’m Creigh Deeds, candidate for Governor, and my campaign sponsored this ad.
“DISASTER” :60 RADIO,
We already know Bob McDonnell supported higher rate increases for power companies like APCO and George W. Bush’s tax breaks for the wealthy.
But when it comes to Bob McDonnell’s record raising your taxes, here’s what you probably don’t know:
Bob McDonnell supported increasing the sales tax twice.
And McDonnell supported a gas tax. Taxes on fuel and diesel. Drivers licenses. Groceries. Soft Drinks.
And even a tax on hunting and fishing.
If you can buy it in a store or drive it down the road, Bob McDonnell wanted to raise the tax on it.
So it won’t surprise you that now Bob McDonnell wants to raid 5.4 billion dollars from our schools that’s his plan for transportation more tolls and cuts to education.
And it’s no wonder that respected Republican leaders — that’s right Republican experts on the budget and lower spending are supporting our friend Creigh Deeds for Governor.
Creigh Deeds: I’m Creigh Deeds, candidate for Governor, and my campaign sponsored this ad.
“BREAKS” :60 RADIO SPOT
Man: So now Bob McDonnell’s attacking Creigh Deeds on the gas tax…go figure.
Woman: But McDonnell has supported gas and fuel taxes just like Deeds.
Man: And that’s the problem! Our roads never get fixed because politicians like Bob McDonnell think it’s more important to score political points.
Woman: And attack and attack instead of fixing things. Man: Deeds is right – only way to fix this traffic is to bring Democrats and Republicans together.
Woman: While Bob McDonnell would rather cherry-pick votes.
Man: Deeds could do that too, you know.
Woman: Yeah – McDonnell’s supported tax increases on gas, groceries.
Man: And increasing the sales tax — twice.
Woman: But the REAL problem IS McDonnell’s transportation plan: it steals 5.4 billion dollars from schools, and adds NEW tolls!
Man: The newspaper called McDonnell’s plan “flawed and futile.”
Woman: Yeah, I like Creigh Deeds’ positive campaign.
Man: And his plan on transportation that looks to the future, brings people together, and finally FIXES these roads.
Creigh Deeds: I’m Creigh Deeds, candidate for Governor, and my campaign sponsored this ad.
Announcer: Paid for by Deeds for Virginia.
It didn’t take long for Team McDonnell to turn this back around on Deeds
Creigh Deeds Attacks Self
Confused and Erratic Campaign Hits New Low: Candidate Inadvertently Attacks Own Guiding Philosophy
RICHMOND- In a remarkable moment sure to be a part of Virginia political folklore for decades, Creigh Deeds, a proudly high-tax candidate who voted for the biggest tax increase in Virginia history, and has already made clear he will raise taxes if elected governor, is now attempting to run as a tax-cutter. In new TV and radio ads Deeds attacks the very fiscal philosophy that has guided his entire career in public service.
Reacting to this stunning development McDonnell for Governor Director of Communications J. Tucker Martin remarked, “This ad demonstrates the utter contempt Creigh Deeds’ has for the intelligence of Virginia’s voters. Creigh Deeds has voted for over $3.5 billion in tax increases in just the last five years. He boasts of his support for the biggest tax increase in Virginia history, and attacks Bob McDonnell for opposing it. He voted for 19 separate tax hikes on just one day last year, and to dramatically increase the gas tax…at a time when gas was already over $4 a gallon. And Creigh has made clear he will raise taxes if elected governor. Creigh’s entire career in public service is based on an unrelenting commitment to hiking taxes. With this ad, Creigh clearly wants to have his tax hikes and eat them too.”

Having been swatted down once more, Deeds has reverted to his old stand-by, “I’ll be just like Marky Mark and Timmy! when I’m governor!”
Oh, really? Even the WashPo had to come partially clean in their story today about that.
But Deeds’s reliance on the two has also chained him to less useful parts of their legacy. Those include the budget cuts and layoffs that Kaine has ordered to deal with falling state revenue and Kaine’s second job as chairman of the national Democratic Party and cheerleader for federal initiatives Deeds would like to avoid on the campaign trail.
So, Deeds is promising more of the same — record tax hikes like the $1.4 BILLION tax increase that Marky Mark and liberal Republicans (most of whom are no longer in office and have now backed Deeds’ campaign) jammed down the throats of Virginia taxpayers in 2004; record deficits, layoffs and spending cuts like those that Timmy! is incurring today; and record financial forecasting errors (no wonder he’s proud to have Jody “Financial Fantasyland” Wagner as his LG running mate.)
Thanks, but no thanks, Deeds. Virginia just can’t afford another governor like Warner and Kaine…
