We here at Virtucon appreciate witty criticism and a badly sung Christmas carol. This is why it was imperative that we share this with you this morning.
Bob Dylan has a new Christmas album which he is doing for charity to help feed children in the U.S. and abroad. After hearing snippets of this album, they may actually starve.
“How else can one describe “Christmas in the Heart,” Bob Dylan’s newly released holiday album? With all the subtlety of a neighbor’s snowblower at 5 a.m., Minnesota’s famed rock ‘n’ roll poet barrels through 15 yuletide favorites in a manner that’s both terrifying and hilarious. Listen here
Whereas most vocalists might prepare to record by getting plenty of rest and sipping warm tea with honey and lemon, Dylan sounds as if he just closed down the bars in Bethlehem with the Three Wise Men and then smoked some frankincense and myrrh as a nightcap.” Read more
UPDATE: We have decided to submit an alternate title to this work: “Christmas with Fozzy Bear”

I personally loved the album…
I like Bob, he has turned out to be a pretty good person, and seems to have no problems breaking from the liberal stereotype The fact he is getting criticized by some on the left for making a Christmas record is also another reason to support him. Even if he is not the best singer.
Y’all are so cruel. I hope I never do anything to upset anyone around here:) Ha!
Citizen, recent Dylan interviews have led me to believe he is not really a hardcore leftist/liberal. If anything he seems to have a very “mind your own business” kind of outlook toward government. After an interview that many saw as an Obama endorsement last winter, he clarified this summer that he was not endorsing Obama and that the song on his recent album “I Feel a Change Coming” had nothing to do with the president. I don’t think Dylan can really be politically labeled.
Is the left really on him for making a Christmas record? Yikes…
Righton,
I agree. Also, in his most recent book, he wrote that he either had a gun back in the “day” or wished he had one(I can’t recall the specifics) to protect himself and his family from unwanted visitors. He went on to say he just wanted to be left alone and not brothered by those that viewed him as some sort of symbol for the left.
He also did a very nice song for the sound track for the movie, “Gods and Generals”.
Yes, some are saying because he happens to be Jewish, he should not have done a Christmas album. He also had a period in the past where he ran into the same backlash.
Citizen, thanks for the info! I still need to read the book… Well the man did release one of the worst Christian albums of all time, “Saved” back in the 70′s when he went Evangelical. I still love this Christmas album…
What can I say? All the best Christmas songs are written by Jews! LOL
The great man does something for charity and you criticise him for his singing? Wow, that’s a new criticism. He’s never been criticised for that before (yes, I’m Australian and we still have an “s” where you put a “z” these days).
He is a genius beyond question and you are a journalist who comes up with an article about Bob Dylan’s voice. Perhaps you should look in the mirror and ask youself “have I ever done anything new?”.
I think the answer is a BIG, FAT “NO”.
I for one won’t be reading any more of your rubbish, and I regret clicking the link that brought me here.
I Llove the album, and will be giving them as Christmas gifts no matter what they think!
There are rumors circulating throughout Los Angeles that in August Dylan sent the Xmas CD to Michael Jackson and Jacko asked his doctor to put him to sleep.
For all the fans of Bob Dylan (and this post seems to have brought them all out), this was supposed to be a lighthearted and funny piece about a singer whose best years may be in the past. Smile!
Opps.
