UPDATED: Virtucon Calls the 8th for Jeff McWaters; Steve Hunt Concedes To Homeless Man

The polls are now closed and based upon reports on the ground, Virginia Virtucon is confident in calling the 37th Senate Dist. for Steve Hunt and the 8th Senate Dist. for Jeff McWaters.  Congratulations to both!

How quickly will Dave Marsden now move out of his rented room back to his home with his wife?  Look for Marsden to supply ample evidence in the coming days that he committed electoral fraud and for three GOP voters to challenge it per state code thereby forcing an investigation.  That’s right, Dave, you not only lost this senate race, but you’ve most likely put yourself in a position to lose your House seat sooner rather than later setting up another special election where the GOP can pick that off.

UPDATE: Okay, so we blew the Hunt call.  Hunt has called Marsden to concede.  It is now up to three 37th Dist. voters to come forward to challenge Marsden’s faux domicile.

  1. Hunt is down 200 votes with 90% reporting, not looking good.

  2. Does Hunt know something we don’t? Still 10% to go. Doesn’t look good, but why the quick concession?

  3. He’s now down by 400 votes with only 3 precincts remaining.

  4. Have the absentees been counted yet?

  5. Absentees went to Marsden by 400 votes

  6. Yes, the absentees have already been counted. 800 for Marsden on 395 for Hunt.

That is probably going to be the difference.

  7. We lost because of absentees? Who knew? How depressing.

  8. How did Dems outhustle conservatives on absentees 2 to 1?

  9. What the heck happened here? Democrats desperate to win coming out in full force? Did voters not like Hunt from his School Board tenure?

  10. Hunt down by over 300 vote all precincts reporting

  11. Sure are some idiots in that district..
How do you reward such utterly dishonest hustling with a vote?
Should be fun to sit back and hit the son-of-a-bitch EVERY time he votes for a tax increase (because he’s such a fiscal conservative)

Are people really this friggin’ stupid?

  12. Monk,

Apparently so. Fiscal conservatism was the centerpiece of Marsden’s campaign. Despite the fact that he’s supported the biggest tax increase in VA history. What a farce!

  13. Democrats will believe anything. Their hopey changey thing is boundless.

Interesting map of the vote by precinct:

  14. Has an officeholder ever been removed for not meeting domicile requirements?
I am not saying they haven’t I am just asking. Seems pretty unlikely to me.

    • GOPHokie, I doubt anyone has ever been removed for not meeting domicile requirements, however if they are convicted of electoral fraud — a felony — because of not meeting the requirements, then they certainly would lose their seat.

  15. Reliable sources tell me that Hunt has not conceded. He is waiting for the canvas to see if the difference is small enough to trigger a recount. Currently the difference is 317 votes, out of 23,569.

  16. I’m disappointed that our guy lost, but this is a reality check that no races can be taken for granted. The slim margin could have been made up with paid workers going after absentee registrations, which apparently was not done here!

Del. Mark Keam won by a strong absentee program and now Marsden has won. We got to learn to back stop a weak ground game with paid workers and go after a more diverse voting block.

Steve was a good guy but what a wasted opportunity. Cuccinelli’s facial expression says it all last night.
