Really?:
Virginia Beach, VA – The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, stated on Tuesday his support of allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military.
2nd District Congressional Candidate Kenny Golden, who served with Admiral Mullen and knows him well, vehemently disagrees.
“While Admiral Mullen is a trusted and admired friend, he and I differ completely on this matter. The issue at hand is not civil rights, but discipline and unit cohesion. Any sexual conduct, homosexual or heterosexual, is strictly prohibited. We are not denying anyone their civil rights just because they cannot announce they are homosexual.”
Well, hot damn, did you guys know that sexual conduct by heterosexual members of the military was prohibited? News to me. So all those military folk you see getting married, I guess they never consummate their marriages?
And I do enjoy people that use straw men, in this particular case, comparing otherwise legal sexual activity with fraternization.

He is talking about conduct on duty. If you are on duty you cannot do anything sexual. Off duty, gay or straight, under current rules, you can do whatever you want within the boundaries of the law. You obviously have no idea how the military works, otherwise you would not have made such an idiotic post.
Timothy,
There are married couples who serve in units that are close to each other. They cannot have any kind of physical relations with each other while on duty. Military regulations.
Meanwhile, at least one poll shows that up to 24% of military personnel surveyed indicated that they would not reenlist if DADT is repealed. This comes at a time when we are already struggling to keep our volunteer military from losing soldiers.
All that we are seeing here is some homosexual activists trying to claim the civil rights mantle. Astute students of history will note, however, that civil rights have been guaranteed to people under the law based upon characteristics, (i.e. skin color, class) and not based upon behavior. These homosexual activists are not asking for equal rights, but rather special recognition.
Exactly what Steve said. It isn’t about civil rights. When you are on duty you have a job to do, period. Anything that interferes with that job gets you booted. Yes, the military discriminates, that is the point. If you feel you need to act out sexually in any way, you will be kicked out of the military. Don’t Ask, Don’t tell was implemented because your sexual orientation is a non-issue. If you do your job and do it well, there are no problems. We don’t ask about it, you don’t tell us, and there are no problems.
I don’t think this is just a military issue. The ramifications are far greater. If DADT is repealed, it will be the first step in the government acknowledging gay marriage. The question of benefits will be raised. Gay couples will won’t the same benefits that dependents get and so on. An acknowledgement of this sort will force states to recognize gay couples, first in the military and then all others. This is a huge infringement on states rights.
