Finally!

I know our resident contrarian commenter Ken has been waiting a long time for this, but it has finally arrived…

President Obama made an excellent decision yesterday when he placed General David Petraeus in charge of the war in Afghanistan.  Petraeus is a consummate professional and if anyone can map out the strategy and tactics to win this war, he can.  I sincerely hope that President Obama provides Petraeus with any and all tools that he requests to accomplish the mission and defeat the Taliban and al Qaeda.  I also hope that he listens to the general’s advice and backs off of the timelines for withdrawl.

Shortly after the appointment of Petraeus was made, Congressman Rob Wittman issued the following statement:

Wittman Statement on New U.S. Military Leadership in Afghanistan

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1), a Member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, today issued the following statement in response to the President’s decision to accept the resignation of General Stanley McChrystal and replace him with General David Petraeus, the current Commander of U.S. Central Command:

“As this situation unfolded, thousands of American troops continued to serve their country in Afghanistan , in a mission critical to the national security of this country. Our focus must remain on this mission, defeating those who would bring harm to our country and across the globe. General Petraeus has a proven record at success with counterinsurgency strategy and will provide continuity to the mission. I believe the President made the right decision in accepting General McChrystal’s resignation, and we thank him for his service to this country.”

Congressman Wittman recently returned from a Congressional delegation trip to Afghanistan and Pakistan , where he met with General Stanley McChrystal, as well as President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan , and President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan .

So, Ken, you can no longer say that Obama can’t win with us. He can if he does the right thing as he did in this instance.

  1. That is awesome news Riley……….i am so used to listening exclusively to the other side that is always making up contrarian reactions, in the name of patriotism, to everything he does and it is refreshing to hear a positive reaction. If Petraeus can find a way out responsbly, he will!!!

  2. Right, but now that you mention it Riley, there really is no way to define victory…..can you believe ,,not even Russia could beat them 20 yrs ago!! And short of killing all the Taliban, just where is victory? Damn Karsai is a traitorous monkey…..and the whole economy is drug-based……..get out responsbily!!!

    • Victory is killing or capturing all the bad guys plus getting the people to take responsibility for their government and having them clean up the drug trade. Now that they’ve discovered mountains full of precious minerals, they can do so much better for themselves.
