One of the signs that 2008 would not be a good year for the GOP was the slew of retired Republican office-holders endorsing Barack Obama (including, in one case, a sitting GOP Congressman bounced in a primary). It was as if the only people will to publicly back John McCain were Republicans who had to do it in order to keep their own careers going. It was a terrible optic.
Well, today, the Democrats awoke to an omen even worse: a Congressman from their own party running for re-election who announced he supported . . . John McCain in 2008 (Sun Herald via NRO - The Corner):
(Mississippi Democrat Gene) Taylor said he voted for Republican John McCain for president . . .
Uh oh.
Democrats running away from Nancy Pelosi is one thing – announcing you voted against your party nominee – when the nominee won 53% of the vote – is something else entirely.
Or, to put it another way . . . in 2008, Republicans abandoned their leaders once it was clear their careers were over; now we have a Democrat abandoning his own president to ensure his career will continue. That points to a very bad 2010 for the Dems.

Or how about the Dem nominee for Gov. of RI?
“He can take his endorsement and really shove it as far as I’m concerned.”
Obama is refusing to endorse the Dem since Lincoln Chafee is also running as an independent in the race, prompting the Dem’s response. He may have just won the race by telling Obama to shove it.
Ah, but will he hold himself to such fits of independence from the figurehead and leader of the party he is a part of?
Then again, from what I understand, Chafee is running to his left. So maybe it’s a good thing a Dem wins the governor’s mansion in RI in this case…
but Riley and Phil…………u both know the saying……some are judged by the enemies they have ……the guy in r.i. is running to be a bigger horses’ ass than crazy carl in nys……..i had elbow surgery and it is hard to type but i can never resist pointing u two in the right, i mean left, direction…..
Rhode Island can easily make (pre-Christie) New Jersey look like the model of government ethics.
How is he a horse’s ass, Ken? By calling out Obama on his own BS? Obama won’t endorse the Dem candidate, but will go to RI and solicit fundraising money for candidates outside of RI. It reeks of political BS, and I can see where Capicio would be more than a bit miffed.
Elbow surgery, eh? Was it “tennis elbow”, Ken?
Yur not going to let go of my ‘confession’ even though i stopped drinking probably beforre you were born. respectable public figures normally have better more biting ways to disagree than to resort to 7th grade language…………
Ken, what I said has NO relation to your “confession” at all. Has nothing to do with drinking, period. You are probably the only person who took my statement to refer to any drinking problems you may have had. In fact, I’m not the one who has made the “drunk vote” comments in the past, so get your facts straight before throwing out accusations and attempting to slander me.
If you had actually got the joke (which everyone but you probably got), you’d know that it was an innocuous, lighthearted poke about a condition that can develop if a male performs a certain activity that nuns will strongly discourage you from performing from the moment you turn about 10.
Now do you get it? Geez, some people have no ability to interpret humor…
ok Phil….sounds like you were offended and next time u refer to things like the ‘drunk vote’ i will take it light-heartedly!!!
Again, never made the “drunk vote” comment. Obviously, you didn’t realize what my joke was really about, and that’s pretty said since I already explained it…
Phil……..there were other sophisicated ways in which to accomplish the end goal………..
