Pr. Wm. Co. Supervisor Maureen Caddigan (RINO-Dumfries Potomac Dist.) will blather on to anyone who will listen to her about how much she hates all developers (with the exception of Mike Garcia she will offer as a caveat.) That is what makes her latest campaign finance report so fascinating.
Let’s take a look at some of the sources of the $15,950 in itemized contributions she raised this quarter.
CHEROKEE MANAGEMENT - REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT – ARLINGTON VIRGINIA $1000
FORTUNA REGENCY LLC - REGENCY CENTERS – REAL ESTATE – DUMFRIES VIRGINIA $2500
MICHAEL GARCIA CONSTRUCTION INC – BUILDER – WOODBRIDGE VIRGINIA $500
GARCZYNSKI MR F. GARY - NATIONAL CAPITAL LAND & DEVELOPMENT CO. – REAL ESTATE DEVELOPER – WOODBRIDGE VIRGINIA $1000
GHADBAN MR HARRY S. - NVP INC. – BUILDER – MANASSAS VA $250
IDI PROJECT MANAGEMENT LC - REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT – ARLINGTON VIRGINIA $500
KETTLER INC - DEVELOPER – MCLEAN VIRGINIA $1000 (Surprising to see they had any money to give after Harbor Station was foreclosed on by the bank)
RAPPAPORT MANAGEMENT COMPANY - REAL ESTATE DEVELOPER – MCLEAN VIRGINIA $2500
ROADSIDE DEVELOPMENT LLC - COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT $500
THE PREMIER COMPANIES - REAL ESTATE – BETHESDA MARYLAND $250
That comes to $10,000 from real estate developers out of the $15,950. That’s 63% of her total contributions. Now, I’m as pro-business as anyone here on Virginia Virtucon, however, this is not only hypocritical on her part (big surprise), but this is a bad investment for these businesses as well. Just before Riley addressed the County Board on redistricting last week, Mike Garcia was complaining to them that the county charges $500 for just a permit to move a single fire sprinkler head in an office building (this does NOT include the cost of actually moving it.) As a result, the office buildings in Dumfries and Triangle sit half vacant because of the high cost to customize the office space to suit the needs of businesses. NEWSFLASH: Caddigan has been a supervisor for the better part of 16 years and this policy is in place on her watch. (Caddigan is also the person who said in 2008 that a 32 percent tax increase on business owners in 2009 wouldn’t hurt them – ”I don’t see any negative impact from the $1 rate on business” – “Businesses fear effects of $1 tax rate” Potomac News 4/4/08.)
Caddigan will forever be known as the person who oversaw the eradication of the commercial tax base from Triangle, Virginia via her grotesque vision for widening Route 1 that has turned the area into a barren moonscape. Sure, the road needs to be widened, but putting in the “walking path to nowhere” beside it leaves virtually no room for any businesses to locate along the road. Oops! I do have to say that Caddigan has done wonders for economic development — for North Stafford!
And don’t get me started on that nightmare-ish traffic circle they’re putting on Route 1 at the entrance to Quantico — I like to refer to it as “Caddigan’s Folly” — let’s see how many accidents and what sort of traffic delays that causes once that is complete. I guess she couldn’t resist bringing some of her native New Jersey to Virginia. What’s next? The dreaded “jug handle” turns? (Please stop me before I give her any more ideas.)
Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t address the name change for the district from Dumfries to Potomac. She’s been telling the newspapers that she had nothing to do with the idea to rename the district Potomac — that it all comes from constituents and Supervisor Marty Nohe (R-Coles) actually introduced it into the redistricting plans. That may be so, but if she didn’t want the district name to change — and trust me, she did because she has been badmouthing the name Dumfries for years now — then it wouldn’t have changed. Supervisor Frank Principi (D-Woodbridge) faced the same calls for his district’s name to be changed, but it didn’t despite him being a freshman Board member in the minority. Her protestations to the contrary, aimed primarily at the members of the Dumfries Town Council who opposed renaming the district, ring utterly hollow.
It would be nice if someone would sit down with her and tell her that she can either go out like former Woodbridge Supervisor Hilda Barg on top or be shown the door like former Coles Supervisor Mary Hill or Del. Jack Rollison. It would be even better if someone like Amy Frederick, Riley, Kristen Forrester (I’m pretty confident each of them could match her entire 1st Quarter fundraising totals in about 24 hours with their connections) or any one of the numerous people Caddigan has pissed off, double-crossed or stabbed in the back over the years were the one to put an end to the reign of the Queen of Dumfries Potomac.

Kristen Forrester for Supervisor!!!
Her self-congratulating soliloquy was excrutiating, blood pouring from my eyes painful.
Riley, please, please, please put an end to the Queen’s reign.
Please run against Maureen. She does not represent anyone. She thinks she is above everyone
Casanova Frankenstein:
Your comments about Supervisor Caddigan are indicative of an individual with serious anger management issues.Only a “coward” would attack a woman who has a demonstrated record of leadership and commitment to the residents of PWC,in particular, our children.
Mr. Riley-By putting up the thread on Mrs.Caddigan by Casanova Frankenstein, you blog site has loss significant credibility by allowing this coward to spew his hatred towards a woman and fellow Republican. If you are considering a run for office, you have lost my support and the support of many others in PWC who would view this thread on your blog site as a gross lack of judgment on your part.
CB,
I gave you facts on where she was being hypocritical — divisions between what she has said and what she has done including citations to campaign finance reports and news paper articles. You provide general platitudes.
I’m sorry if you construe that to be “hatred.” Where I come from, it is called “political discourse.” If you could be more specific other than “leadership” and “commitment” and “our children,” I would be happy to engage you in this discussion and we might actually agree on some things from her record.
Plus, what does her being a woman have to do with anything? Am I not supposed to be critical of her because of her gender?
And don’t go taking this out on Riley — who was one of her most vocal defenders during her 2007 primary. VV is a free speech zone. I do have to laugh at you criticizing him for allowing this post that tees off on a “fellow Republican” given Caddigan’s long and acrimonious history with other GOP candidates ranging from Sean Connaughton in ’99 (when she publicly supported Democrat Kathy Seefeldt), Corey Stewart in ’06 and ’07 (when she publicly supported Democrat Sharon Pandak), Jeff Frederick in ’05 (when she semi-publicly supported Democrat Hilda Barg), Rafael Lopez in ’09 (when she refused to support him and he lost the race for 52nd Delegate by a hair to Luke Torian) and Keith Fimian in ’10 (when all she did was put her name on a fundaising flier for him, but didn’t lift a finger to help him otherwise and he lost GOP precincts in her district that a flip of just a few hundred votes in would have reversed the results of that election.) She seems to take excessive pleasure in this sort of thing. I have newspaper articles and other sources to back up each of those items as well if you would like for me to share those.
CF,
Ms.Caddigan’s public record of accomplishments is too numerous to mention. I am sure that our veterans, police and firefighters, teachers, senior citizens,to name a few, would gladly talk to you about their support and appreciation of Ms.Caddigan.
Frankly,it is what quite laughable for you to make the wild accusation about Ms.Caddigan and her alleged lack of support of Keith Fimian. As if she was somehow responsible for him loosing the election. I would recommend talking to Keith Fimian before you make outlandish accusations about Ms.Caddigan.
If you are going to go after Ms.Caddigan about taking campaign contributions from developers are you going after every single Republican elected official who have also taken campaign contributions from developers? Or are you only selectively pursuing that issue because of your dislike of Ms.Caddigan..Frankly,I am not overly concerned with a campaign contribution from a developer. I am more interested in knowing whether the campaign contribution is “lawful” and not from someone who is part of a criminal investigation.
CF-Are you a current resident? For someone who thinks he/she knows it all and is a so called Rino Hunter, you sure like to make unfounded accusations about individuals, hiding under your moniker on this site and BVBL.
Maybe you should be spending more time bashing Democrats since we have upcoming elections in November.
Again, no specifics. And I have no issues with developers, but Caddigan claims she does, yet turns around and takes 2/3 of her recent donations from them. THAT is the point of this post. She can’t have it both ways.
By the way, you should have seen the reaction of members of the Montclair POA to her when she recently showed up at a meeting – you could almost hear the sound of their eyes rolling as she extolled her own virtues.
