Governor McDonnell threatens to fire the entire UVA board
In a statement on Friday Governor McDonnell has threatened to fire the entire Board of Visitors at UVA if they can’t reach an agreement on the university’s leadership at their meeting on Tueday. He said ““Let me be absolutely clear: I want final action by the Board on Tuesday. If you fail to do so, I will ask for the resignation of the entire Board on Wednesday. Regardless of your decision, I expect you to make a clear, detailed and unified statement on the future leadership of the University.” The story is here. McDonnell’s full letter to the Board of Visitors is here. The response from UVA Rector Dragas is here.
This whole thing has been mishandled and allowed to become a much bigger mess than it should have been. The board fired the first woman President and now it looks like they may rehire her on Tuesday because of faculty and student protests. If that happens, Teresa Sullivan will be in that job for life, or as long as she wants it. They’ll never again be able to fire her.

I get the feeling a lot of folks on the Left REALLY want something to be here that isn’t. They want a smoking gun that proves Cuccinelli or McDonnell meddled in this. Its pretty clear thus far this was an internal matter blow up.
I agree Chris.
I am already tired of reading of this, particulaty Larry Sabato prattling on as if all of academia hinges on this “situation”.
