Lets call your cartoon the DJ averages…………..and turn it up the other way…….AND THAT IS THE TRUTH!!!!

    • Howard Roark

Ken, we differed on many things in the other thread, but I agree with you completely that Barack Obama is 100% responsbile for the economy we have today.

    • Ken Reynolds

C’mon Howard………………i said no such thing………..i say interdependence is key to our economic output……..and as a seasoned businessman, i am sure you agree……………

January 1981, Reagan assumes office during the Carter recession, the worst since the Great Depression. Civilian, nonfarm payrolls stand at 91,031,000.

June 1984, same period into the Reagan Presidency as we are into the Obama Presidency now. Civilian, nonfarm payrolls stand at 94,461,000. 3,430,000 net new jobs created; an increase of nearly 4%.

January 2009, Obama assumes office. Civilian, nonfarm payrolls stand at 133,561,000.

June 2012. Civilian, nonfarm payrolls stand at 133,088,000. Net loss of 473,000 jobs.

Three and one-half years and this economy belongs to Barack Obama. Not George Bush. “Somebody else” sure didn’t do this. Just Barack Obama.

Nate – absolutely there is more than DJIAs to the economy. I think DJ is important since it brings so much together in one place. Remember, it was around 7,000 and falling when Bush left office. Think of the trillions of dollars regained in pensions and 401ks as a result. Right-wingers pull off the numbers that go against Obama (nb Howard herein). He says there has been a job in jobs while Obama points to 28 successive months of addl employment…….

    • Howard Roark

Check out the numbers for yourself. I didn’t make them up:

Ken – you said you worked for the Federal Reserve Board so you know this is a credible, non-partisan data source.

I agree completely with both Nate and Ken. The DJIA is far from being the most important measure of economic well-being. The most important measure is keeping people gainfully employed.

Here’s another good indicator of how well “it worked.” In January 2009, when Obama assumed office, the civilian unemployment rate was 7.8%. Today, it’s 8.2%. Thank you, President Obama, for the great success of your economic policies!

Again, I ‘m with you 100% that Barack Obama is responsible for this economy. I feel a warm glow in my heart when a conservative such as myself can share so much agreement with my liberal friends!

    • Ken Reynolds

Howard, you do have impeccable research skills!! St Louis numbers are also used in several other govt agencies as the best!! BUT, i didnt say President Obama is 100% responsible……….i keep saying, and you must agree when you think about it, our economy, society….are all interdependent…………and that is what he was saying in Roanoke. One more thing, recall for a minute that when unemployment was discussed at thechange of administrations, it was predicted that the rate would go up when Obama took office………..unfortunately it didnt come down as fast as we all want………..i wondder where it would be if he didnt save the auto industry!!!!

    • Howard Roark

“Right-wingers pull off the numbers that go against Obama (nb Howard herein).”

I hope you are not going to try to argue that employment and jobs are trivial measures and just something “right-wingers” cite to embarrass Obama. I think you are too intelligent for that, and I’m enjoying our debates. Someone who argues that jobs and employment are not the most important, or at least among the few most important, measures of economic health couldn’t be taken seriously.

  4. Ken Reynolds

Where i work today, unemployment numbers are viewed as most important………………..until they go down, the mortgage market will not get fixed……nothing is unimportant!!!!

  5. thebulletproofmonk

“Obama has created 4 Million jobs”. That’s fine and dandy…until you realize that we need to create 600,000 jobs just to keep even. So what he should have created was 600K x 44 months….in order to crow about even keeping on the level with unemployment. We’d give extra points for getting ahead of the baseline…..like Reagan did when he had a travesty that Carter created, but then posted single month job reports with Millions of jobs in a mere 4 years.

  6. Ken Reynolds

Monk – i find it interesting that Paul Volcker helped to dig the nation out of the recession when Reagan came into offic, and Volcker did the same for Obama………….and i think with a little more time things will be back in order economically..
