Romney Picking Ryan Would Be Like Reagan Picking Kemp In 1980…

JackKemp

So says U.S. Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.)

Cole, a political operative before entering public office, said Romney picking Ryan would be akin to Ronald Reagan in 1980 selecting Jack Kemp, then a young, up-and-coming conservative congressman, rather than George H.W. Bush.

“Reagan picked up and ran on Kemp-Roth,” said Cole, referring to the tax-cut proposal that encapsulated conservative thinking of the time. “And a lot of people thought that was a dangerous and radical idea.”

Just think of how better off the country and the GOP would be today if that had happened (or at least if Jack Kemp had won the 1988 GOP nomination for president.)

Cole may not know how close to the truth he is on this as 18 years ago Paul Ryan sat at a cubicle desk just outside of Kemp’s office at Empower America.  I know this because I was on the other side of the cubicle divider from Ryan.  (Gee, if I knew then what I know now, I should have gotten my picture taken with Paul instead of Jack…)

I think Romney would be a major improvement over the current office holder. However Reagan picking Kemp would have been far better than if Romney picks Ryan, and that is not an insult to Rep. Ryan. The reason is because Romney is no Ronald Reagan. ;) [I know you weren't really trying to make that comparison, but I just wanted to add that.]

Who cares? Kemp and Ryan are just operatives for oligarchs. Kemp-Roth (ERTA 1981) act began the supply side economics that evolved into the neo-liberal shit show of economic policy we have now. What are youguys neo-liberal oligarcic shills too?

Love me some Jack Kemp. Few actually recognise his influence in the years of prosperity that Reagan brought about as a direct result of Kemp’s keeping after him on the importance of those who create jobs…and we as a country reaped the rewards.

According to sources, it appears we’re fighting a losing battle if we hope Romney selects Ryan. Sad, but I still have some hope.
